Kaneki took the girl back to Tsukiyama's mansion while she slept in his arms and placed her in one of the spare rooms before heading back to the library.

His team all sat around looking like they had questions but didn't want to ask them until he was there.

"Well?"

Nishiki was the first to speak. Well blow up.

"Well?! Don't act like what just happened doesn't effect you! You're just a glutton for punishment aren't you?! Taking on Aogiri and the Doves in one night!! You think you're invincible?!"

"I'll ask that you lower your voice when speaking to me."

"Who the hell do you think you are?!"

"I'm Ken Kaneki the leader of this little team and the one who's getting highly annoyed with you."

"You know...when you were gone, all we could think about was saving you. Because of the kind of person you were. Not this bastard you've become."

"Are you done?"

"Yeah...yeah I'm done. Take care Ken."

Nishiki stood and grabbed his mask before exiting the library, walking away from this mission and walking away from this new Kaneki. He was done.

"Anyone else?"

Yomo got up without a word and left followed by Uta a second later, saying that he had to complete some orders at his shop.

In the end it was only Kaneki and Tsukiyama, the tension making both of them uncomfortable.

"Maybe...maybe I went too far."

"Really? I hadn't noticed."

"God what have I done?"

"You've run off your team is what and now there's only you and I. So now what?"

"Well actually, there's been some ghouls I've been keeping an eye on who might be able to help us. Why...why didn't you leave too?"

"I live here. And...as your friend I don't want you to think you're alone even if you'd rather it be that way."

"...I appreciate it. I'm going to check on that girl."

"You do that. I'll go see if I can speak to Nishiki."

Kaneki left the library and headed towards the area where he'd left the girl and came across Kanae walking towards him.

"May I speak with you?"

"What is it?"

"I do not appreciate you putting my master's life in danger just so you can settle your little grudge match with Aogiri Tree."

"And this is my concern why?"

"Keep in mind that the only reason you continue to breathe is because Master Shuu considers you a friend. The moment he doesn't, I will personally see you killed."

"Tch...you've always annoyed me you know. You constantly preach your undying loyalty to Tsukiyama but yet here you are doing things behind his back rather than in his face. If I'm such an issue then voice your concerns to your master. But you won't do that will you? No because you're not sure whether or not he'll choose me or you. That's sad...Karren."

Kanae froze at the mention of that name, there was no way absolutely no way in hell that he could know that. But how could he say the name if he didn't?

"Your expression tells me everything. Poor little Kanae your secret has been discovered, but then again it was so easy to see that even the blind could've. I was tasked with an assignment one day before I was captured and that's where I came across a file. The Von Rosewald file. And before you try to explain what I saw away as a typo, I know it to be true after digging into the past a bit. The Von Rosewalds had only two sons that so tragically passed away along with their mother, leaving only one child remaining. Karren Von Rosewald."

All Kanae could do was stand there and shiver with anger, fear, and sadness as Kaneki walked past her.

"Do us both the favor of staying the fuck out of my way."

She could do absolutely nothing. She hated him. Every blood vessel. Every molecule. Every cell. Every atom. She hated Ken Kaneki with everything that she was.

Kaneki opened the door to the girl's room to find her sitting up in the bed wiping the tears out of her eyes. Poor kid.

He'd known how she felt a long time ago when his mother worked herself into the grave but that didn't compare to this. She'd watched her mom get beheaded and almost found herself in the same situation. There was no easy way to recover from that.

Kaneki sat at the foot of her bed and gave her a soft smile that could melt the heart of a frost giant.

She seemed to relax a little so that's when Kaneki decided to start speaking.

"I don't know if you remember me but I was the one who saved you from the Doves."

"...the one who wore the eye patch mask?"

"The one and only."

"...what happened to the Doves?"

"I disarmed and let them flee."

"You did what?! Are you insane?!"

"Not entirely."

"They deserve to be killed for they did, they're nothing but murderers."

"So are we."

"But we d- I mean we- Your riddles are weird."

"No riddles here, I'm just a ghoul trying to make the most of a fucked up situation. I want to make a world where ghouls and humans can coexist together peacefully, so there's no more pointless deaths like your mother's."

"Heh...sounds wonderful. Unlikely. But wonderful."

"Yeah...yeah I guess it is."

"Eye Patch?"

"Call me Kaneki."

"It's nice to meet you Kaneki. So, how does one join this little crusade of yours?"

"You already have, welcome aboard...uh?"

"Hinami. Hinami Fueguchi."

"Welcome aboard Hinami Fueguchi."

"Ah, so the little has agreed to join our cause?"

Hinami and Kaneki both turned towards the doorway where Tsukiyama stood next to a Kanae who looked ready to crush coal into diamond using her sphincter.

"Yeah she has, which increases our numbers."

"You never told me who the other potential new members were."

"Heh, let's go get em right now."
