Synopsis:

While on the surface Yuu Otosaka appears to be just another charming and intelligent teenager, he has a secret—he has the ability to slip into people's minds and fully control their body for five seconds at a time. Yuu has been using this skill for years to gain the highest grades, which allowed him to enter a prestigious high school.

When the enigmatic Nao Tomori catches Yuu using his power, she coerces him and his sister Ayumi into transferring to Hoshinoumi Academy, a school for students with supernatural abilities. The student council of the school, led by Nao, is tasked with secretly tracking down adolescents who abuse their powers. Yuu is forced to join the student council and together, they face formidable challenges that bring him closer to the shocking truth that his own, seemingly incomplete ability, might be more powerful than he could have ever imagined.

An original story from Jun Maeda, creator of Angel Beats and Clannad, Charlotte explores the supernatural lives of these teenagers and the price they must pay for being special.

Yusa "Yusa Nishimori, Yusarin" Kurobane

Yusa is a first-year student and the vocalist for the band How-Low-Hello. She is able to speak to the dead. She uncontrollably channels her dead older sister Misa, who occasionally possesses her. When this occurs, her appearance changes, such as her eye color turning from blue to red.

Spoiler:

Misa lets Yuu plunder her abilities after hearing his plan from Nao. Before that she had written a letter to Yusa, after her ability is taken she reads it and starts crying knowing that she was with her and everyone the whole time. She no longer possesses any powers.

Ayumi "Ayu, Ayucchi" Otosaka

Ayumi is Yuu's little sister. She likes stars. She is also a huge fan of the Idol Yusa Nishimori.

Spoiler:

She awakens the ability to make everything around her collapse, but ultimately, this awakening leads to her death. In episode 6, during a lunch break at school, Ayumi is threatened with a box cutter by a jealous classmate; she begins to run, but is soon cornered. Instinctively, she uses her ability, which collapses both the roof above her and the floor below; killing her.

In episode 10, she is saved by her brother Yuu who travelled back in time using their brother Shunsuke's ability of time leap. Her ability was plundered by Yuu after he had time leaped backwards, so she no longer has the ability.
