*misspelled the title on purpose
Imma be honest here, icewings are my least favorite tribe. They all look so angry! And I get it, rude dragons are a thing, just like rude people are (sadly), but an entire tribe of dragons that look like they could fillet you with a hug and then laugh about it? A little overboard. It just always felt like a planet (or tribe in this case) of hats thing to me.
So I came up with a headcanon that I think would fit into the cannon pretty well!
Within the icewing gene pool, there is a recessive mutation that has quite an effect on icewing appearances. Dragons that have this mutation have rounded scales and spines (occasionally horns too!) that give them a much friendlier look. Something like this:

Dragons with this mutation are often given much lower standings in the icewing hierarchy, as they are seen as les attractive by the society's standards. Many unhappy parents blame the oddity on an ancient animus curse or on the mother's diet or the father's occupation or some other unorthodox thing, but no matter what they claim it to be the family will face consequences for their child (nowadays it's usually just removal from the palace or being forced to live on the edge of the territory for the rest of forever, but it used to be execution by drowning). Most of the time, dragons with this mutation have to strike out from their families for personal safety, and wind up in possibility. Mudwings will often call these dragons floppers and mistake them for hybrids, but it is impossible for a hybrid to visibly carry this mutation because of the nature of recessive genes.

While I was drawing my boi I also came up with a few fun icewing designs, and I thought I'd use them as examples for cool design tips.

So, same face syndrome. Something I've noticed in the wof community is that lots of people have ocs that are just 'she's a skywing with purple wings and green eyes and lots of scars' and that's it! But that doesn't really tell me what she looks like! Just like people, it's safe to assume that dragons not all look like carbon copies of each other! Some people have square heads and some have thick eyebrows, we're all slightly different! With your ocs, you can probably exaggerate these differences to make them all more unique, it's helpful for stories and artwork to have something special to identify your oc with. Different eye or jaw shapes can really add a lot of emotion to a character, more than colors could! I did a couple sketches of cool icewings to prove my point, even though they are very different you can still tell they're icewings!

The rest of these are different ways you could use the rounded spines in a design, along with some unusual colors.

(Excuse my awful leg anatomy and anatomy in general)Anyway I guess what I'm saying is that variety is good with dragons, play with faces and horns and proportions as much as you want, and soft ice dergans are the best dergans
