"What would happen if I disappeared?"

Kirsten eyed Elyssa. "That's not funny. I wouldn't be able to live without you."

Elyssa smiled slightly. "Not true. Nothing would change if I disappeared."

"I would change. Elyssa, I probably would've killed myself if you weren't here." Kirsten said firmly, because it was true. Why Elyssa wouldn't believe it, Kirsten didn't know.

"You have so many other people. If I left, what change would it make?"

Kirsten smiled bitterly. "The change is bigger than you think. Shut up and do your work."

Elyssa chuckled. "Okay."

Even if their conversation had ended, Kirsten was still thinking about it. What would she be without Elyssa? It wouldn't be nice, Kirsten knew it wouldn't be.

If one person disappeared from their lives, nothing would ever be the same. Nothing ever was.

---

Kirsten didn't see Elyssa at recess. She was with Natalie, chatting about random things. No sign of Elyssa. Had Elyssa texted her saying she wasn't coming to school? Kirsten forgot to check her DMs before school started.

"Did Elyssa text you saying she wasn't going to go to school today?" Kirsten asked Natalie, because it was her best shot at knowing.

Natalie looked at Kirsten confusedly. "Elyssa?"

Kirsten nodded. "Yeah, Elyssa."

Natalie shrugged. "Does she go to this school?"

Kirsten glared. Death glared, actually. "This isn't funny."

Natalie laughed and backed away slightly. "I swear, I don't know who Elyssa is! Ask around, no one would know unless she went here!"

And with that, Kirsten set out to find Isela.

"Elyssa?"

Kirsten nodded, silently praying she knew who Elyssa was. They've been on and off friends for a while, Elyssa and Isela were kind of unforgettable to each other.
