Based on the prompt: "Person A dies and becomes Person B's guardian angel and watches them grow up."
this is honestly a really sad prompt :((((It started with a car accident. Drunk driving. The driver got arrested, the victim died.
Elyssa thought that death would be painless. It wasn't painless, everything hurt. She just wanted to sleep, and once she did, she knew it was over.
The next thing she knew, she was in Kirsten's bedroom. Elyssa scanned the room, looking for Kirsten. She was snuggled in her bed, sleeping. Elyssa spotted a mirror and realized, she couldn't see her reflection.
She could see a small halo and wings. That was when Elyssa also realized that she was Kirsten's guardian angel.
Elyssa got startled as she saw the wings and started to fly. Holy nya she could fly!
Kirsten then rattled awake due to an alarm on her phone, which made Elyssa jump. She looked at Kirsten, who looked like she had just cried. "I should just not go to school today," Kirsten mumbled.
There was a calendar in her room that had the date, September 10th. Elyssa had been dead for a month. Apparently, it takes a month for dead people to become guardian angels.
Elyssa frowned at Kirsten's statement, if Elyssa was actually alive she would yell at Kirsten for not wanting to go to school that day.
Kirsten had just entered her second year in high school, and her grades could not afford to be bad at all. Elyssa scanned the room for something to write with, wondering if she could actually hold pen or a pencil.
She spotted a blue pen, and decided she would have to make do with that. She was able to grab it, but as soon as she did, it became transparent. Probably because if Kirsten saw a floating pen that should be weird.
Elyssa saw a post-it note and started to write a short message where it wouldn't be obvious that she was in the room. Elyssa knew if she revealed herself that would be bad, so very bad.
Elyssa finished writing the note and brought it to Kirsten's phone, which was laying on a nearby desk.
Elyssa sit in a chair and waited for Kirsten to get out of bed.
A few minutes later, Kirsten stood up to reach her phone. "Go to school, trash." Kirsten read out loud. She laughed at the note, taking it off of her phone.
"Sounds so much like Elyssa," Kirsten whispered, throwing the note away. Elyssa smiled solemnly, she so badly wanted to let Kirsten know that she was there with her.
But deep inside, Elyssa wanted Kirsten to forget her. If Kirsten did, she could live her life without Elyssa's memory in her mind. Kirsten would be happy and move on from their past friendship.
Elyssa didn't want Kirsten to hold back her life because of her death.
———
Three months passed, and things were looking up. Kirsten had good grades and new friends, which Elyssa was happy about. Sure, she talked to Natalie, Jina, and Valeria, but she also had new friends.
It didn't seem that Kirsten was holding back in anything. She smiled much more than when Elyssa had first became her best friend's guardian angel.
Were they still even best friends?
Elyssa shook her head and watched Kirsten eat with her new friends at a restaurant. Elyssa did not want to think about their friendship, she really didn't.
Elyssa always had a bang of guilt in her chest (did she even have one?). She never said goodbye to Kirsten. That much hurt.
It hurt that Kirsten had moved on. It hurt so bad that she wanted to let Kirsten know that she had been watching over her the whole time.
