10 | Scared to Death

Based on the prompt: "In another life." They declared, voice cracking as blue eyes threatened to spill with tears. "In another life, things are going to work out with us. There won't be duties nor any bethrothed nor anything else to keep us apart."
"In another life." The echo was melancholy as they let go of the other's hand.

Kirsten = 18 years old, Elyssa = 17 years old, the rest are near those ages (accept for the queens and kings they old)

"This is so frustrating!" Elyssa screamed in anger. Her maid, Jina, sighed. It was just a simple gala, it wasn't like it was the end of the world just because the princess got mad over trying to choose a dress.

"All you have to do is pick between these three dresses, it isn't like there is someone you must impress, princess." Jina laughed nervously, trying not to make Elyssa more frustrated.

Elyssa pouted, of course Jina thought this wasn't an important day. Well, to the princess of Avalian the upcoming gala was of upmost importance. Royalty from many kingdoms were scheduled to come to the gala and meet with the king and queen. Those royalty had to be impressed by the next crowned queen, after all, Elyssa had to choose her bethrothed at the gala.

"I have to meet the special one at the gala, Jina! This is important, I have to impress him!" Elyssa exclaimed, picking up a purple dress with flowers on it.

"This one looks good." Elyssa smiled, handing the dress to Jina. Jina gladly took the dress and walked out of the room, probably getting make up.

Elyssa looked at the list of the showing kingdoms here knight, Isela, provided. There were five kingdoms attending: The Kingdom of Barcela, The Kingdom of Leone, The Kingdom of Resisca, The Kingdom of Kiara, and The Kingdom of Axar.

Elyssa had heard of all the princes from the kingdoms. The only three with a princess was the Kingdom of Resisca, Princess Francisca, the Kingdom of Barcela, Princess Jessica, and the Kingdom of Leone, Princess Makida.

The prince of Kiara was Prince Brenden, and not many people admired him. The prince of Axar was Prince Alvin, and he was decent. They both weren't the best choices, but to be bethrothed to one of the two would be best for the royal family of Avalian.

It was common knowledge to know who you would have to choose to be married to, so Elyssa asked her personal knight/spy to do research for her (thanks Isela). It turned out that Prince Brenden was a spoiled prince who always got what he wanted. Prince Alvin rarely got out of his castle, so Isela only knew that the prince of Axar could read books very diligently.

Elyssa sighed at her two choices. Clearly, her parents wanted her to choose the husband that had the largest amount of money, which would be Prince Brenden. Elyssa didn't want to choose something as snobby as who she thought he was.

Jina interrupted Elyssa from her thoughts as she entered the room, handing Elyssa the dress.

Elyssa took the dress and caught Jina's smile as she went to change into the long dress. Today was going to be a long day.

Kirsten waited outside the castle gate for Princess Francisca. The Kingdom of Resisca had been invited to attend the Avalian Gala that would announce the bethrothed of Princess Elysabeth. Kirsten honestly didn't want to go to a gala, but Princess Francisca insisted she came with her anyway.

So, there the Princess's knight was, waiting outside of the Resisca castle gates. Kirsten never understood why princesses took so long to get ready, all they had to do was put on a dress and then leave. Simple.
