{Location: Chen's island}(Skylor's POV)[Time: When Skylor was 5 years old]
I roll out my colored markers onto the table. Black, black, black, where's that black marker? I sniffle, I heat being sick. For me, it seems to linger weeks afterward. Ah-ha, I grab that marker, pulls off the cap, roll up my sleeves. I've been clumsy lately, which leave a lot of little white cuts on my hands. I start drawing on myself, connecting the cuts to each other.
"His, sweetie," Mommy kisses my cheek as she brings in apple juice and cookies, "What are you coloring today?"
"Me." I'm slightly hypnotized by the marker ink.
"Why are you coloring yourself?" Mommy gets up, looking for paper to replace my coloring canvases.
"Because of the cuts."
"Cuts?" She rushes back and nabs my hand to look at its prettiness. Her sleep deprived neon green eyes look into mine, "Skylor, where'd you get these?"
"Um...Father's been saying that I'm clumsy." I just want to keep coloring and eating snacks.
"Skylor, sweetie," Mommy pets my hand as she looks at the other one still in its sleeve, "How long has Dady been saying that you are clumsy?"
I shrug, trying to pull my hand back, "Can I color now?"
"Skylor."
"For a while."
"How long is a while?"
"Donno." I shrug as I look for more colors to decorate myself with.
Mommy shakes her head, "Skylor, last question and I'll get you more cookies. Have you and Daddy spent a lot of alone time in close spaces?"
I nod as I reach out and grab a red marker.
Mommy lets my hand go, kisses my head, "I'll be right back with those cookies." She leaves after handing me a fat stack of papers. She doesn't go very far as she goes to have about conversation with Father in the next room.
I scribble on the paper but it's not very fun. I hold onto my red marker as I find a pretty purple color, connect more white cuts then alternating between red, black and purple. Eventually I run out of white cuts to play with and switch to my other hand. I pause and reach for my apple juice and cookies.
{Location: Clover's apartement}(Skylor's POV)[Present day]
I slowly wake up. Sam's Dad is the worst. Just because she isn't there all weekend somehow means that I too can't be there. At least I have a place to crash with Clover being gone. I shuffle through the pantry, settling on sugary cereal. I get changed and stuff my costume for the play in my purse as I pull on my orange sandals. I check my phone, "Well, time to be 20 minutes late again." But it's not that important of a meeting. I mean it's probably gonna be games and silly improv stuff. I open the door as a mailman is about to put something in the mail slot.
"Oh, um, are you Clover Marcus Kin or current residences?" He pushes up on his nerd glasses as his bamboo hat nearly hits me.
"Yeah." I chew on my gum as I wish I had something more filling then Lucky Charms, "Can I help you?"
"Here you go." He hands me a package as he walks back to his bike.
Whatever. I look at the package, from Clover to Clover. Oh, this must be from one of the caves of amber. Guess the Creed finally let him check it out. I pull open the paper to a scroll. Yay. Cue heavy eyes roll.
I take the scroll with me, lock the front door then walk to the bus.
Oh no.
I need a better brain. How did I forget that Das lives close to Clover? And I have to take the next bus.
