~ 49 Days Till The Wedding ~

I examined the suspect from head to toe - a young, short man with fair skin, pale green hair and piercing on half his face.

Johnny D. Christopher, a drug dealer suspected of murdering a girl whose death I investigated.

When I arrived at his house a few hours ago it was empty and I understood from his neighbors that these are the hours when he goes out to trade.

The suspect spoke to a dark-skinned businessman in a tailored blue suit and shook his hand. I could see him passing something to him and I knew it was my time to act.

I got out of the car quickly and took my gun out and shouted, "Stop! Police!"

Johnny dropped the man in the suit and began to run. I tried to run after him and get him but he was quicker than me and I almost lost him.

It was a bad idea to go out without Chris, I thought, I'm not learning from my mistakes.

"Come on, Jenny, you can handle it!" I encouraged her, trying to make her walk faster.

She was panting, sweat streaming down her forehead and her face flushed with effort as she said hoarsely, "We'll see you trying to walk after a year you didn't do anything other than lie down and urinate through a tube, Assface."

"Don't exaggerate," I said, putting my hand around her waist gently and supporting her as she tried to walk, "it was only half a year."

If she could, she would glare at me, but instead she just said, "Bite me."

"I don't think your future husband would be pleased with that." I said amusedly, "Though I wouldn't mind."

She sighed angrily, "Why did Tim have to go for errands today? He knows I can't stand you."

"Correction: He knows you love me so much that you'll probably cheat on him with me." I could feel her weak hands pushing me from her while she swore at me with false fury.

In the last few months Jenny's condition had improved; she gained weight and didn't look like a walking skeleton anymore, she manages to walk for half an hour until she gets tired and collapses in some corner, she can curse me as fluently as she always does. The situation feels almost as if it has returned to normal.

Almost.

I felt that Lavender was missing. I didn't spend much time with her, but I felt how her leaving affected me - I no longer enjoy my job as before, I'm not as sharp as I was because I always find myself thinking about her, comparing the criminals to her.
