The next morning the kitchen was spotless. The girls were in their bed, cuddling their child. Cam was the first to wake. She saw how they both slept like babies (since one was a baby). She rolled out of bed and trudged downstairs.
"How'd you sleep?" Dick asked when she saw her enter the kitchen. Jason and him were smirking. Cam looked at them and flipped them off. She grabbed a mug and put some coffee in it. She sat down in front of them and asked,
"Did you enjoy the show?" Neither were expecting that answer. Dick choked on his coffee and Jason's mouth was wide open. Cam was smirking while drinking her coffee. "You both did get a good look."
"I just want to know why there?" Dick asked cleaning himself up.
"I have a baby in my bed. I don't want her smelling or hearing what we're doing. Plus it was only one of the places we haven't gotten around too."
"That reminds me, Alfred wants to go shopping with you. He's turning one of the rooms into a nursery," Jason said putting some cereal into his mouth.
"Do you know where he is?"
"I think I saw him last in the batcave." Cam chugged the last of her coffee and put the mug in the sink. She made her way down to the cave and saw the local news back home. It was a video of a house burning down. Cam's eyes started to water when she realized whose house it was.
"Turn it up," she said. Bruce and Alfred looked at her.
"Cam-," Bruce said trying to calm her down. But Cam wasn't in the mood.
"Turn up the damn screen!" she yelled. Alfred complied and turned it up.
"The house on Lock Hills Drive burned down late last night. A Jay Anderson was in the house at the time and wasn't able to make it out. The police have started an investigation and are thinking it could be an electrical error but aren't ruling anything out-," Bruce cut the TV off and looked at Cam, who had tears in her eyes. She wasn't saying anything. No one was. It was a silence that no one wanted. Bruce finally broke it.
"Cam we don't-," he said looking up at her.
"I'm going home." Cam said looking at him then turning to run up the stairs. Bruce wasn't going to let her get away easily. He was hot on her tail trying to see if he could change her mind. But nothing worked.
"Cam just let the police do their job," Bruce said when they got into the hallway. "Cam!" he yelled at her while grabbing her arm.
"My fucking aunt died," she said quickly yanking it away while turning around to look him in the eyes. There was tears and she looked as if she lost her world. "I never got to be with her because you took her from me when I was eight! I'm going back home and you can't stop me," she said turning and running up the stairs. When she got into her room she closed the door and cried.
"Babe! What happened?!" Taylor said with a worried look. She couldn't comfort her fiancé because she was breastfeeding her child.
"My aunt died," she said softly. In that moment Taylor saw something she's never seen. The brokenness inside Cam. She never showed weakness. She always wanted to be tough for Taylor. She was the protector. Cam has her back against the door. She slid down to the floor and cried. Taylor saw the baby was asleep so she took the time to put her on the bed. She got next to the woman she loved so dearly and consoled her. She held her close to heart. "I'm going back tonight."
"I'm coming with," Taylor said about to get up. Cam held her down.
"I need you here. It's safe. Alfred will take care of you. I'm weak. Useless. You need someone who will defend you."
"That's crazy! Cam, I'm going with you!"
"Taylor, I said no!" The room fell silent. Cam had tears in her eyes as Taylor looked at her. "Please. Stay." Taylor knew she wasn't going to win this fight.
"Promise you'll call everyday. And FaceTime. I want to be updated. I don't need you going suicidal on me, again." Cam smiled at her.
"I promise I won't." They smiled at each other. Eve started crying so Taylor got up but instead Cam pulled her down and said, "I got this." Cam got up and cradled their child.
"When will you come back? And I hate to ask this but will you get our stuff?"
"Maybe a week or less. And I'll ask Bruce if he can send some moving trucks." Eve was smiling and giggling seeing her mom play with her.
"God she loves you," Taylor said smiling while grabbing a suitcase from the top of the shelf. There was a knock. Taylor walked over and opened it revealing Bruce.
"Taylor can you take Eve and give us a minute," Cam said glaring at Bruce. Taylor scooped Eve from Cam's arms and headed outside.
"What do you need?" Cam immediately asked when the door closed. She opened her drawer and grabbed some shirts and angrily threw them in the case.
"Don't go," Bruce said pleading.
"Bruce, I'm not gonna Black Bat whoever's ass did it. I have funeral arrangements and since Taylor and I are moving in we need our stuff."
"I'm going with you. You don't get to object. We're taking my plane and I'm going to help you." Cam rolled her eyes and turned to face Bruce.
"No you're keeping an eye on me. But at least I don't have to pay for anything." Cam smiled at him and closed her suitcase. She turned to him and asked, "Are you ready?" He raised his eyebrows and shrugged. She grabbed her suitcase and walked past him going to the car. He followed closely behind when they walked down the stairs. Taylor saw the two and smiled.
"I'll text when I land," Cam said while kissing Taylor's cheek. She kissed the head of her baby and smiled.
"I'll be waiting," Taylor said continuing to play with their child. Taylor smiled at the pair when they drove off to the airport.
"I'm sorry for acting out on you. I didn't think I would act out on you again. It felt nice though." Bruce looked at her and laughed.
"It did?"
"Yeah. It felt like old times." They both laughed and smiled at each other.
