"Lets rest." Niall places a big bag of apples, which he had been holding just a second ago, on the soft ground. Rubbing his hands together, he tries to keep warm, but it's much colder than he had expected these spring evenings to be.
He had expected them to be warm and nice, and that you would be able to lay on the ground at night and stare at the stars. But no, instead they usually had to cuddle themselves up on the horse, or cover themselves with bushes. And this night is even colder than the others have ever been for so far.
"What?! We're almost there! We can't just go and rest!" Katelyn exclaims, trying to search for the Lake of Purity somewhere in the far distance. Niall had said they would arrive today, so why aren't they there yet?
Katelyn wants Laura to get her help. She wants to know what's wrong with her best friend, and she wants her to open those blue eyes again, finally being able to find life.
Why can't they just open right now?
"We traveled too slow, and the horse is exhausted, so let's just stop."
Huffing, Katelyn wraps her arms around her body, feeling the cold seeping through the thin jacket she's wearing. Why stop? Why not search any further? The healers have to be here somewhere, right?
The girl starts murmuring to herself angrily, pressing her lips into a thin line.
"Kate, stop moping around and help me make a campfire." Niall mumbles, placing branches and sticks on top of each other. At first the girl just glares at him, not feeling like doing anything. But after a while of glaring at Niall and watching him not even reacting on it, she gives up, starting to collect things that will catch fire easily.
Even though she would love to just jump on th horse and let it trott away from the stubborn prince, not turning back to him, she knows she can't. The horse is tired, and Niall is the only one who knows the way. He's their guide.
So that's why she starts helping, not wanting to freeze because of the icy breeze.
After a while, the two teens have made something that kind of looks like a proffesional campfire, but then without fire, and Katelyn speaks up again.
"Niall, have you got something to light this with?" She kicks a small rock to the side with her foot, watching it roll away from her. It dissapears into the darkness, and Katelyn wants to step forward and look for it, but she's too lazy to move. When she looks up again, Niall is just standing there, staring at her sheepishly.
Raising an eyebrow at him, the girl glances back and forth between the blonde prince and the pile of branches on the ground. "What is it?" She then asks, setting her hand on her hip.
Niall looks down at the grass, that has a grey colour because of the absence of light, and then lets his eyes find a way back up to Katelyn again. "Erm... I haven't got a match or anything..."
Katelyn's eyes widen in shock, as it slowly starts getting colder and darker around her and Niall. How are they going to keep warm? How do they not freeze to death in this weather?
It's too cold to just lay down and cover themselves with leaves. It's too cold to try to find bodywarmth by hugging close to the horse. It's too cold to go and sleep.
"Really Niall? What kind of prince are you?!"
Niall huffs at the 'prince'-part, he still doesn't like it when Katelyn calls him that. "It's not like a prince carries around a pack of matches all day!" He shoots back, lightly glaring at the girl in front of him in annoyance.
"You should've at least thought about taking one before you pranced into the woods on your lovely white horse!" Throwing her hands up into the air, Katelyn takes a step closer to Niall, looking directly into his icy blue eyes.
They're both completely annoyed with each others company, but probably it's only because they're tired, and because they have been around each other for too long now. Yes, they really like talking to each other, but when it's only Niall or only Katelyn all the time, it will not be as nice as they had expected it to be. It's just getting on both of their nerves that they have nobody else to talk to.
"WELL YOU COULD'VE TOO BEFORE YOU SKIPPED INTO THESE WOODS AND DECIDED TO LET YOUR FRIEND WALK OFF ALONE AND LET HER ALMOST DIE!" Niall spats, now getting really angry. Who does Katelyn even think she is, telling Niall what he should have done and what he shouldn't have done?
Katelyn's eyes widen as she hears Niall's words, and she clenches her fists on her sides. He can't just talk about Laura's condition like that. "I DIDN'T EXPECT THAT TO HAPPEN!"
Rolling is eyes and letting out a snort, Niall folds his arms in front of his chest.
"WELL I DIDN'T EXPECT TO SUDDENLY HEAR YOUR SCREAMS FOR HELP WHEN I WAS JUST MAKING MY DAILY WALK!!"
"BUT YOU'RE-"
Before the by now screaming Katelyn can finish her sentence, a figure dooms up from the dark, smirking slightly. His face is dark, being covered by the darkness of the night and his hood, that's framing his face and hanging over his eyes a little. "Do you need any help, perhaps?"
Katelyn looks over at Niall a bit wary. Is this Liam? Or is this someone else following them? What if he's dangerous? Maybe he wants to kidnap Niall! He is the prince after all. She is about to ask this stranger about his identity, but Niall speaks first.
"Uhh no thanks, we are fi-" Katelyn quickly interrupts him, shaking her head slightly. "Niall here doesn't know what he is saying. Yes, we actually do need some help. Do you have some matches or anything that we might be able to use?"
Niall sends her a dirty look, but the girl ignores him, and turns her attention to the stranger who is still hooded, making it impossible for her to get a good look at him. He reaches into his satchel, that both Niall and Katelyn hadn't even noticed was there yet, pulling out a lighter as he says; "Here, it should be working."
Katelyn reaches forward and takes the lighter from his hands. "Thank-you.. umm.. I am sorry, I don't know your name?"
The hooded stranger looks a bit hesitant before speaking up, his voice sounding different than before. "Oh, umm.. that isn't important." Niall decides to speak up at this point, after being rather quiet for a while.
"And why is that?"
Katelyn looks between the two of them. Niall seems to be almost challenging the stranger, as he steps closer to the man, getting up in his space. You can clearly see that the hooded stranger, who was so dark and mysterious just a second ago, is getting really uncomfortable right now. He takes a moment, before mumbling some nervous words. "Uhh well.. I-I just umm.."
Niall steps even closer and says; "You already know mine so why can't you tell us yours? Is there something you have to hide?" The man starts to lean away from Niall but is pinned between a tree and the blonde prince himself, not having anywhere to go. Katelyn watches the mysterious man trying to squirm away, but with no affail.
"No, nothing like that." He murmurs nervously, trying to get away from the suddenly quite intimidating prince. He doesn't like being the scared and nervous one. He doesn't like it at all.
Niall moves closer, if that is even still possible, and reaches up to take the hood off the man. The stranger immediately throws his hands up to his face, shouting. "No please! Don't!"
Katelyn watches from the side, not really sure if she should stop Niall or let him reveal the mysterious man's identity. Well, it doesn't matter anyways, she wouldn't even be able to stop everything, even if she would have wanted to, because Niall already grabs the stranger's hood tightly and rips it off his head.
A man with short brown hair gets revealed, having scared and nervous brown eyes.
Niall's own blue eyes grow wide as he stumbles backwards a little, inspecting the person in front of him with large eyes. He knows this person. He recognizes his face. It's him.
"L-Liam?"
