Lucas stumbled through the front door as he waved Ezra goodnight. He was about to creep into bed when his ma came out of her room.
"Is that you Lucas? Now why don't you tell me where you're coming from young man?" She asked her son.
"Barry's, Ma I was with Ezra" he answered while trying to stifle a yawn
"Ezra huh? tell me 'bout that kid you've been hanging around with lately" Beth pulled out two chairs and offered him one.

"Don't say things like that" Lucas chided angrily "you of all folks should know better"
"Don't let this town's judgment dictate how you live son" She said soothingly "you're not a coward"
"Wrong Ma, I am a coward" he stood up and headed to his room "besides, we're just friends"
"Ouch, that's friend zoning if I ever heard o' one"
