Sheriff Dan Rogers, Ezra's dad, rounded up the thugs the next morning including Sheriff Andrews who had given the thugs orders to deal with Ezra.
"Now whoever has a problem with Ezra and Lucas better be aboard this van now" Danny bellowed at the crowd that was shifting backwards. "Good, I didn't think so"
He drove to the state prison and locked them in to await trial. He observed a minute of silence as he passed the cell that held his best friend. No one has been held in that since he passed away. Don Williams made sure of it himself, scaring the inmates away with ghost stories and having them transferred to the psychiatric ward.
Life in the town went back to normal, well almost normal. Lucas nursed Ezra back to full health, Anne-beth and Bethany put themselves in charge of the 'wedding committee'. And they all lived happily ever after.
"Awwn Pa, tell us another story" Annabelle whined "the wedding story"
"Goodnight pumpkin" Ezra said pecking little Anna's forehead
"Pa? Dad is Lucas in the story right?" Suzanne asked
"And a goodnight to you too peaches" he pecked his older girl on her forehead too.
He put off their lights and went to the room he shared with his husband of nine years.
"Still terrifying the kids with our story, aren't you?" Lucas murmured as he cuddled into his husband.
"They ask for it every time, not my fault" he laughed.
"Its been ten years, how do you still remember that exact same day?"
"That's was the exact moment I fell in love with you" he answered fondly "Goodnight Lukie-pookie-poo"
"I still pack a mean punch remember?" Lucas threatened
"I love you too darling"
"Whatever happened to Ruby, Ezra?"
"Well, Andrews threatened to expose her if she doesn't wait for him and she decided that with her character, having someone on the good side of the law wouldn't hurt at all"
"Wow that's smart"
"At least you were saved from the greatest birthing hips in- oww"
"I love you more honey"
