Lucas was oiling his daddy's guns when Ruby burst into the house.
"Oh, you've got to save me Lukie, there's a mighty big snake in my barn, I need help" she fluttered her eyelashes and thrust forward her chest "how is a proper lady like me gonna survive with a snake that big and long, oh my!"
Lucas rolled his eyes "This better not be another one of your ruses Ruby" he grumbled "I've got a ton o' work to do"
"Oh no, I swear it, it's gonna be there when you come. We'll both see it"
He corked his rifle got into her barn in search of the snake.
"I don't see no snakes here Ruby"
"Well I do, it right here- oomph"
Ruby crashed into Lucas, straddling him in the process.
"RUBY!!!" Lucas bellowed in anger trying to get her off him.
"What's wrong with you? Why don't you like me? I've got the best birthing hips in town, I can give you healthy sons, is there someone else?" She shouted in frustration "is it Naomi?"
"Yes, yes there is"
They both turned at the sound of a new person. It was Ezra and Lucas sighed in relief.
"I hate you! Both of you!" Ruby stormed out of the barn in rage "don't go thinking I won't do something about this, no one messes with Ruby!"
"Looks like you've got yourself quite a handful" Ezra smirked helping Lucas up
"Ruby? No thank you" Lucas shivered in disgust "a cactus is less prickly than she is"
"Don't you want sons, from the greatest birthing hips in- oww" Ezra grunted in pain.
"I'll kill you" Lucas said in mock anger.
"Race you to the river!" Laughed Ezra.
And they raced like little wee ones while the town watched on.
