   | chapter nine: Katherine |

So apparently Bonnie wasn't dead.
Nikolai found out about that some days after the dance. He wasn't thrilled about it since the witch's death hadn't meant anything to him, he was just glad Elena had stopped crying. The constant crying and wailing made him want to die, again.

He had been calling Katherine the whole morning but she didn't pick up. He wondered where the hell she was.
He was heading to The Salvatore's to tell them he was done with helping them. He was sick of them all and didn't want to be part of the save Elena squad. As he walked up to the door he spotted a dirty looking man.

"Elijah?" Elena looked panicked as she spotted Nikolai. "You look like shit."

The original glared at him and he smiled sweetly. He had actually missed the fancy man and his suits.

"Please don't tell them Nikolai, I need to talk to him and-"

"Elena, I don't give a fuck about what you do, now get out of my face." He spoke and entered the building, waving goodbye to Elijah.

As soon as he heard Elena drive away he jumped upon Stefan, who was sleeping.

"Did you dagger Elijah?" He questioned. "That's so mean, like why would you do that. He's so nice and such a gentleman."

"Nikolai, you're a serial killer. Don't judge us for stabbing him." Stefan spoke while being smooshed under the Italian vampire.

"I don't like when people call me that and by the way, where's Katherine? I can't reach her." Nikolai asked and Stefan seemed to realize something and jumped out of bed, making Nikolai fall over.

"What the fuck man." Nikolai groaned while Stefan rushed down the stairs, probably going to look if Elijah was still in the cell. Nikolai trudged downstairs and watched as Stefan freaked out and Damon doing nothing to help.

"Why would she go with him?"

"Oh you mean Elena? Yeah I saw her leave with Elijah when I came." Nik shrugged and felt a glare on him.

"Why didn't you say anything!"

"Cause I didn't care? And can you answer my question now, where's Katherine?"

Both the brothers grew quiet and Nikolai was now officially suspicious. He was ignored and decided to leave, leaving the two to solve the Elena problem alone.

If Klaus was in Alaric's body he guessed he'd caught Katherine. He contemplated if he was going to save her or not, he didn't want to risk his own life by saving hers. It was selfish and she would give him hell if he didn't at least try to find her.

He called a confused Matt and got Alaric's address then found the apartment building and picked the lock. It was quite easy and he wondered why the man had such a horrible hideout. At the sight of Katherine he smiled.

"Took you long enough." She spoke bitterly with a bottle of alcohol in her hand.

"Don't be ungrateful. If he had taken me you wouldn't show up."

"That's true, but I'm fine. You should leave and come up with a plan to kill the bastard instead of being here." Katherine spoke as she walked around in the seemingly large apartment.

"The save Elena squad is thinking of every possible way to destroy Klaus so I'm not going to waste my time on it. Even Elijah is with them." Nikolai spoke.

"They're not going to succeed, no one can kill him!"

"If you want I can seduce him and-"

Katherine laughed at Nikolai, every time they had a problem with someone he offered to seduce them.

"I don't know if you can seduce him Nik, he's not as easy as everyone else."

"Hey I managed to seduce that impossible warlock some centuries ago, remember that? I can seduce a little hybrid easily." Nikolai argued and the brunette shook her head.

"You didn't even seduce him! You killed him right away!"

Nikolai grew quiet, remembering that he did just that. Most of the times when he offers to seduce someone he just kills them.

"Now get out of here. I'll be okey. And don't even try to seduce him!" Katherine smiled.

"I'll check up on you and we'll solve this. Klaus won't get to hurt you anymore. And no promises!" He spoke and swooshed away. He knew his words weren't truthful. It was a possibility that Klaus would kill the Petrova doppelgänger and Katherine, just for the sake of it.

From the stories he'd been told, Klaus was a man who killed just for the kill. They were alike in that way, that's why he knew the hybrid would have no hesitation when it came to killing anyone in his way.
Nikolai had done just the exact same thing some years ago, he killed everyone who got in his way from getting what he wanted.

Nikolai wondered how he had ended up with the Salvatore's and on their side, instead of Klaus's side.
