I think the hardest part of losing someone you really, truly love for the first time is that you do not ever get to be the same again.
When we mourn, we often forget that we did not just lose them, we lost part of ourselves too. The person we could have become with them, and the future that we now don't get the chance to have are gone. It is hard to be left behind, a part of you buried with them. Everything changes in an instant you cannot control, and you are left to deal with the aftermath. You change and you long to keep them alive. You long to keep that happy person you were when you were with them alive too. You long to keep the dreams that became a part of you when you were with them. There is a never ending longing to be with them again, to be the person you were when you were with them, to experience those warm feelings of what it was like to love someone and care for their lives more than your own, for the very first time.
