"Chapter 28"

_______________________

Ji-Young's POV:

I didn't even cry, the shock was that great. Jungkook's parents were alerted and I called the others, my voice hysterical, telling them to make their way to the hospital. Everyone was panicked, confused. Poor little Jisoo was probably worried too, her little face creased in a frown.

Within the waiting room, I sat alone, a boxes worth of clothes, pictures and my mothers belongings inside. My heart clenched and my throat tightened, the despair strangling me. Within the course of one hour, my only parent died and one of my best friends was severely injured because of me. Two people I loved had suffered here today.

And the worst thing, they roomed Jungkook in my mother's old room. Death was still thick in the air, it was so potent it was almost as if you could smell it. Not just sense it but smell it. Maybe I was just losing sanity today. My sanity was already wearing thin and I'd been balancing on the line of sanity and insanity since the accident. Maybe this would just tip me over the edge.

Everything that followed today's incident was a blur in my mind. All I could remember was screaming, eyes focused on the blood pooling underneath him, the way his leg was twisted abnormally and how his eyes were closed, his usually smirking lips turned down and expressionless. I could remember the hallways blurring past, like how the landscape whizzes past when you are in a car, all blurring into each other. The white and blue hallways did the same here as I ran beside his gurney, despite my profusely bleeding knee.

They wheeled him into a private area when his heart spiked and his body went into distress. I panicked and began to shake. A doctor sat me down, telling me to breathe. I knew I had to, but in moments like this, it feels like your breathing doesn't matter. You just hope the person you're waiting for is breathing too.

Ever since I have been sat in this uncomfortable plastic chair. Nervously, I would shuffle, tap at the arm rests, rock forwards and back. Now, I'd started picking at a loose thread in my mother's yellow sweater. It had always looked pretty on her, brought out her healthy tan glow. I'd grown so obsessed over this stupid little yellow thread that I never even noticed Taehyung, his eyes bleary with tears, calling out to me.

"Ji-Young-ah!" He yelled, shaking my shoulder. Slowly I gazed up, acknowledging him, before looking back down to the sweater. I'd lost the thread.

Minutes later, the boys appeared as well as Mina. They looked at me with puzzled eyes, all brimmed with tears. Jin's didn't fall until he saw the box, realising something only us could. Slowly, without motivation, he trudged towards me, falling in the seat next to me and began to cry violently. My tears still hadn't fallen, my brain still in denial of recent events. I believe I was trying to make it not real. But it was. I had to realise that.

It took a few moments for the others to put 2 and 2 together before they gathered around, all of us hugging in this tight circle.

We stayed like that for a good 3 minutes before beginning to disperse ourselves so we sat in separated seats. None of us could look each other in the eye. Instead, we just held each others hands and simply looked down to the floor, waiting for something to happen.

"I-Is he okay? Is my son okay?" A deep voice yelled from the reception behind us. None of us looked up.

"Excuse me sir, what is the name of your son?"

"J-Jeon Jungkook, his name is Jungkook." A man and woman said in unison, voices shaky. We all turned quickly, some of us rising from our seats.

"I-I knew we shouldn't have left him alone! He's too reckless. Especially for that long. What if he wanted our attention. Oh honey what if-" The woman began to wail, pulling a small girl tight into her arms, tears staining the little girls familiar dark hair and bright red t-shirt.

"M-Mr and Mrs Jeon?" I began to approach them, hesitant to grow too close. What if they were mad at me?

"Y-yes?" Mr. Jeon turned, seeing all of Jungkook's friends crowded around me.

"Unnie!" Jisoo yelled at the sight of me and she reached out her arms, wanting to hug me. Her mother frowned between her and I, before a look of realisation came over her face.

"You're that girl they both go on about."

"Both?"

"Yes, Ji-something-"

"Ji-Eun?" The father asked.

"No she was the old one he used for his pleasures." His mother muttered, frowning to think of my name.

"Ji-Young, Mrs. Jeon, my name is Ji-Young."

She smiled, hugging me. "He went on about you as does she. You seem to be really special to my children. Are you dating him?"

"No-no, we are just close friends. Very close."

His mother nodded, a knowing smile on her face, her eyes still filled with sadness and distress. One by one, she hugged the other boys, introducing herself to Mina. Afterwards his father followed, shaking hands and saying hello to us girls.

"Unnie?" Jisoo asked from beneath me, clutching my hand tight.

"Do you think he'll be alright?"

"Yes, of course he will. Your brother is SOOOO strong. Stronger than a lot of people I know. He'll make it through." I smiled to Jisoo, stroking her tear from her cheek and kissing her hair covered forehead. Guiding her to a chair, I sat her on my lap and stroked her head, helping her calm down until eventually her light snores were audible.

-

It was about 10pm and most of the guys had gone home, asking for any information if anything happened. Taehyung and Jimin had stayed on, Jimin only leaving to walk Mina out of the hospital and into a taxi, before coming back minutes later.

Jisoo remained in her spot on my lap as I insisted, wanting Mrs. Jeon to really attempt to rest. She thanked me, before sitting next to her husband and resting her head on his broad shoulder. Once she slept, he moved her head, removed his jacket and placed it over her like a blanket.

I hoped to be as in love as they were one day.

The night was growing long and tiredness was beginning to overwhelm me. But just as the tiredness was beginning to have a hold on me, dragging me into unconsciousness, something stirred me. The clacking of shoes against linoleum, becoming closer and closer and closer.

"Excuse me, everyone who is here on account of Jeon Jungkook?" A man in blue scrubs asked, looking at all of our sleeping forms with worried glances.

"Yes-yes!" Everyone chimed besides Jisoo, who stirred in her sleep, mumbling something under her breath.

"He has regained consciousness and is off of all of his aid for now." The man said. His parents bolted up, ready to see their son.

"Well can we see him?"

"You can of course but-"

"But what doctor? BUT WHAT!" Mrs. Jeon's voice was high and shaky. Holding her, Mr. Jeon comforted her and Taehyung gave her a tight hug, telling her it will be alright.

"Mrs. Jeon please do not be distressed. His memory seems foggy but that is normal considering he hit his head badly. Perhaps a concussion or acute amnesia but we are sure all his memory will be regained in days. But he asked to see someone in particular." The doctor turned, facing towards me.

"He asked to see you."
