Chapter Three~ The Golden Bracelet
'Lady Flora, I did not wish to offend you. But if you haven't noticed, there are two Dragon Riders. My brother and I are both as powerful as the other, we are both capable at stopping any obliteration threats that may come our way. I believe that we are able to stop both wars,' I retorted.
Slowly, the Amelaria stood. Regarding both the Lady and I.
'Dragon Rider Saoirse, in the mortal world, to keep balance, who would you side with? Your home, or the innocents? Who would you fight to keep balance?' she asked, walking with slow steps around the table.
The question startled me. It almost reminded me of the Last Mages question in the Dragon Caves, 'You are standing at a crossroads, one leads to peace, though, if you take th road you will die or do you take the self-preserving road?' he had asked.
I had said peace.
Swallowing, I began my answer. 'I would side with no one. I would not fight, brute force isn't the answer in major conflict.'
The Queen nodded.
'And so, in an immortal battle, who would you side with? Good or Bad? Beign or Malevolent?' she paused for effect. 'Seelie or UnSeelie?'
I pursed my lips. 'Noone. There is no good or bad. Good people can do bad things and bad people can do good things. It all depends on where you stand, because, when you believe in something, the people who oppose you are the bad, and you are the good. So the is no good or bad, just your position.'
The Amelaria seemed pleased with this, though the mood of the table had shifted slightly and the council members were shooting Elizabeth shifty glances. As though she was the exact product of what I had just said.
I expected her to say something to her brethren but she kept her eyes firmly to the table, a look of shame plastered to her face.
'Good child, it seems the Elves have taught you well. David. Please stand, Saoirse may take a seat.'
David stood and I saw Elizabeth's hand drop from his.
'If your sisters life was at risk, and you had to choose to defend your dragon or your sister, who would you choose?'
I could see Davids mind flying, I held my breath.
'In the Dragon Caves, The Last Mage asked a similar question, 'Your dragons life is more important than the lives of you loved ones. True or False?' At the time I answered false. But now that I have Parthim, I don't think I could ever let her go, but even then , I could never let my sister die or get hurt. Both my dragon and my sister can protect themselves, both are as resilient as each other to survive. I don't believe I could ever live without either, and even if I did choose, I would die of guilt. So, for your answer I wouldn't choose. I would save them both, even if I died trying.'
I blinked and breathed a sigh of relief, I had thought for sure that he would pick Parthim.
The Queen did not look pleased. 'You are too loyal. You would destroy the world to save your loved ones. A destructive flaw to have. Be wary of it. Sit. Lady Flora, you and I will speak after the meeting.'
Suddenly, I had a terrible thought.
I stood, 'In Golde Stone Brook, is there a fairy circle?'
The Lady Flora stiffened, 'Yes, why?'
Ignoring the question I pushed on, 'Is there a stone missing from the circle?'
But before the Lady Flora answered, I already knew the answer.
'Yes, why?' she asked again.
I stared down at the gold bracelet on my wrist. 'Because I know where it is.'
When Elizabeth, David, William and Harry and I were searching for the Dragon eggs, I had found a peculiar looking rock made of solid gold, but when held up to moonlight it appeared transparent, showing a number etched inside it. Elizabeth had warned me to put it down but only too late did I realize when the gold stone wrapped itself around my wrist. I had entered the dead mans trance that night.
'We must return it to the circle,' I whispered.
