Chapter Four~ The Dream

It wasn't a problem I had thought it would be, the gold bracelet. When I had picked it up off the ground, the object had merely intrigued me. The moonlight bouncing off it but also through it to reveal a number, a number I hadn't thought about in months, but now, as I held it to the moonlight once more I noticed that the number had changed, to a clear 13.

At the time I had found it Elizabeth had had an expression of hope, excitement had danced in her eyes. Although now her expression was sombre and her eyes sad.

'We must return it to the circle on the Summer Solcist or the UnSeelie will truly vanquish you in battle,' I said roughly. 'As for until then; David and I will fly west to Belidona, we must stop the mortal war or all will be lost for them also. David and I will meet you at Golde Stone Brook on the morn of the Summer Solcist. Be ready there with your army but thread carefully as you approach. They still sleep, but fitfully.'

'This meeting of the Council is adjourned. Lady Flora, a moment please,' the Witch Queen concluded.

The Elven Kings and Queens stood and left, along with other Fairys of the mounds and Witch Queens of the Clans in the North, West, and South.

I had already been standing so I walked alone up the slope with Elizabeth and David behind me. But I couldn't look at them because every time I did, I felt a tug at my heart, knowing that Will was taken and that I may not have the power to save him.

Her eyes stung with unshed tears.

The tunnel finally opened out into the hollow entrance of the oak tree and I ran towards Densase.

He didn't need to ask what had happened, his mind and mine were linked telepathicaly so he already knew what was wrong and what had already happened.

I ran my fingers up and down his snout and hugged his head to my chest, a tear falling from my cheek. But I refused to cry. I would not cry. Because the Dragon Rider Saoirse Athiosus did not cry.

Slowly I released my dragons head and walked the length of his neck to his body, where I put my foot into the stirrup of the sadle and pulled myself up.

Densase extended his bat like wings and with one strong beat, we were in the air.

I guped in the fresh air that spun around us and sighed.

The tension that had built up during the meeting subsided slightly but it still lingered.

I yanked my hair loose and let my lightbrown mane flow behind me.

All too soon did Densase land in the small glade beside the tree I lodged in.

Small flowers bloomed in the glade and vines grew up the side of the tree, hanging like curtains outside the large openings that acted like windows.

The doorway was open and free, to let the wind spirits drift in to tidy during the day. to the right of the door was a steep staircase of woven roots fused together, to the left an archway of flowers led to another room with a bookcase filled with ancient scrolls and books. A table woven of the ground itself stood in the middle of the room, I noticed that the scrolls I had been reading were gone, probably on the bookshelf. Chairs of vines sat around the table. Across the room from the bookshelf was a counter and shelves, each shelf brimming with perserves, fresh produce and Elven wine. On the counter stood two basins lined with water, one steaming and one freezing. Beside that, an opening in the tree bark let in the moonlight.

With a sigh, I climbed the stairs and collapsed onto the bed I was given all those months ago.

I fell asleep as soon as my head touched the pillow.

'Tell me where she is!' a voice in the shadows insisted.

'I refuse to let her be hurt by you!' shouted another voice.

The shadows churned around me as I felt for the speakers, but it was as if I could only hear and not see, as all my visions had been before the quest.

'Let her be hurt by me?!' the first voice screamed in outrage.

'Yes!' screamed the second in defiance. 'You let her grow up in poverty, ignoring her for her whole life. You let her be pushed around by people who were lesser than her but refused to think so. To those people she was merely a paesents daughter, abandoned by a Duke. Do you know what that did to her?'

'It didn't stop her from befriending you, did it? Or leading a quest to Simmenders cave?'

The second voice grunted, 'How would you know that? Still asuming, are you? Dragons don't exist, said it yourself, didn't you?'

'Oh did I? I guess I did. But it is no matter, I have proof. And when you see, you will cower before me, as will the world,' the first laughed with malice.

I awoke in a cold sweat, breathing heavily and shivering.
