I woke up to see Shay hovering over me.

"Time to get up." She said, patting my shoulder. I stretched and crawled out of my sleeping bag. I was extremely sore, and I wasn't sure if it was because of all the running I did yesterday. Or if it was from sleeping on concrete all night long.

I packed my bag, and met the others by the fire escape. "Even though the rotters are gone, we should be quick in here." Sammy said, walking down the stairs. "We don't want them coming back and catching us off guard."

We walked quickly around the building, and to the front door. The building was locked up tight.

"It's locked, how do we get in?" Sammy asked.

I leaned down and grabbed a stray brick off of the ground and threw it into the glass door. It shattered and the glass fell loudly to the ground.

"Dumb question." Sammy said, then walked through the door.

As soon as we stepped into the store, a horrible rotting smell assaulted our noses. I covered my nose, trying not to gag.

"Is that a rotter?" Sammy whispered.

"Uh, I'd say it's coming from that." Mark said pointing to an open door to our left.

"Oh God." I said and turned away. Swaying from the ceiling were two rotting people. They had hung themselves. Mark stepped forwards and closed the door.

"Let's make this quick." He said.

Everyone began scavenging throughout the shop. I walked towards the restroom door, and slowly opened it. We were almost out of toiletries, and that's one thing I wasn't going to run out of.

The bathroom was completely dark, so I raised my flashlight. This room smelled just as bad as the rest of the store did. I could hear a slow dripping sound coming from somewhere in the room. I covered My nose and walked farther in. Sitting on a counter were a few rolls of toilet paper, so I quickly shoved them into my bag. I shined my light around and noticed a dark pool of blood, swirling around behind a stall door. I slowly pushed the door open, to see what it was. Curiosity getting the best of me. There was a dead man, with a bullet hole in his forehead, slumped in the floor. I felt chills run up my spine and quickly got out of there. I don't know what happened in this store, but I wanted out of it.

"You okay?" Shawn asked, seeing me come out of the restroom.

"Yeah. Just don't go in there." He nodded and we turned towards the others.

"Let's go." Shay said.

We hurried out of that city block and on to the next. "Maybe we can find a working vehicle." Sammy groaned.

"Or some horses." Shay replied. I would be fine with either.

"Horses are Sammys favorite. She-" Mark was speaking but cut off abruptly by gunfire. I jumped and watched Mark hit the ground. Sammy fell next to him screaming. I watched in confusion for a moment then I finally pieced it together. Someone shot him.

"We've got to run!" Shay yelled, pulling on Sammy.

She wouldn't move, so I grabbed her, "Sammy! We've got to go now!" She shook me off and another shot rang out. I watched Sammy hit the ground. Shay screamed and I glanced around, up above us on a roof were a group of men with huge guns. I yanked Sammys bag off of her and ran.

Shay was in front of me running, she was in shock. I glanced behind me to see Shawn running only inches away from me. As we ran, bullets hit all around us.

I watched Shay duck into an ally and we followed. She stopped and began to sob. "What the hell just happend?" She screamed. I just looked at her, not knowing what to say.

"We've got to keep going." Shawn said, grabbing both our wrists and started running. As we ran, we could hear the men still shooting and hollering at us. "Why are they shooting at us?" I asked, but nobody answered me.

We ran for a few more minutes after we could no longer hear the gunshots. We stopped behind an old building to catch our breath. "We need a quicker way out of here." Shawn said glancing around.

I looked through the window of the building we were hiding behind. "Bikes."

Shawn broke the knob on the back door and we went inside. It looked like it used to be a pawn shop. We picked the bikes with baskets on them so we could haul a little more. I looked around and managed to find some old guns and a little bit of ammo. Shay filled her basket with extra blankets and a metal baseball bat. Shawn took the guns I found and put them in his basket. And I loaded mine with knives and a few water bottles. I went to walk out the door with my bike, when I spotted an old empty picture frame. I grabbed it and shoved it in my bag.

"Let's get the hell out of here." Shawn said, peddling down the road.
