I just thought of this last week;
What if Wanda, when she abandoned Clay, had left him with a note telling him of his magic inside a spell tone she left for him at the orphanage when she dropped him off? And nobody knew about it? And when Clay turned three, his magic activated when he was getting bullied, and he found out about his mom and taught himself magic, then didn't tell Merlok when he found him when he was five? And then continued teaching himself at the Academy by also 'borrowing' some of Merlok's books (NO HE DID NOT STEAL THEM HE JUST TOOK THEM INTO HIS ROOM WHEN MERLOK WASN'T LOOKING AND RETURNED THEM THE FOLLOWING END OF THE SCHOOL WEEK WHICH MADE MERLOK VERY CONFUSED WHY THERE WERE PILES AND PILES OF BOOKS ON HIS DESKS EACH FRIDAY XD) but Merlok didn't know that Clay already knew he could do magic and never suspected it? So when Merlok sacrifices himself, Clay's magic is what digitized him to let him survive?
