I squinted my eyes, trying to get a good look at what laid beyond the wall. My eyes adjusted within seconds, and all I could see was a large stone tower rising above the forest trees. It stood thousands of feet up and looked like it took up half the forest. I felt a hand on my back, it was Charles, he pushed myself and Sophronia forward and through the doors. I followed his lead and walked past the threshold, followed by the twins and Timothy. I was still staring at the tower in the distance when I heard a slam from behind. I whipped my head behind me, only to find that not only had the gate closed but it had also disappeared. Our fates had now been sealed.

"Umm, I expected a little more, death and destruction" William spoke, clearly just as confused as the rest of us.

"Well, what do your oh so great gods tell us to do after we cross the wall? Hmm?" Sophronia spat at Charles. His face was blank, he tried to speak but no words came out. I had just assumed that we would all be struck with lightning or something as as we crossed the wall, but... I was alive, we all were. I scrunched my eyes closed as my head began to pound, I raised my gloves hand to my eyes. Once I pulled my hand away from my face I saw the twins begin to walk down a trail through the trees,

"Where are you two going?" I called out, all heads turned to the twins.

"Well" Will said,

"We were just thinking" William chimed in,

"That if this is all there is, then maybe, going to that tower would be a good start at figuring out what the hell is going on." Will finished. It had become easier to distinguish the two the more I looked at them, Williams hair was a slight shade darker than Will's. Will had a more greenish tint to his brown eyes, whereas Williams were pure brown.

"I guess, they have a point" I replied, aiming my words at the other three. I pursued my lips, running my tongue along the chapped cracks as I begun to walk along side the twins towards the tower. We were quickly followed by the rest of the group. This path was a fair ways longer than the road we had taken to the wall. And would probably take hours to reach the tower, it was already noon, we were going to have to spend the night in the woods.

After an hour of silence, the twins decided to start up conversation between the others,

"My names Will, and this is my brother William" he paused letting everybody glance towards him before he continued.

"I know we look pretty much identical but we are actually franternal twins, crazy huh?" He looked at the young boy, Timothy. Who tried to smile in response, it was a failed attempt. I understood the awkward smiles now, they were trying to ease his nerves. Maybe they weren't as odd as I thought. After nobody else replied for a good few minutes, William continued for Will,

"Hey, if were not dying, and we are all stuck here, together, then we might as well get to know each other, right?" He raised his eyebrows in question. But what he said sunk into my skin, he was right, we weren't dying. At least not yet. Everybody had said that once you step across the wall, imminent death awaited. They were wrong. And maybe just maybe, we could live. I could live. I could survive on this side of the wall, slate washed clean. A new start. Then another voice broke me out of my thoughts,

"I guess so, well first off my name is Sophronia, though most people just call me Sophia. I'm a baker, or I was a baker. And I have three grandkids, Lily, Hendrix and Annie. All of which I will never see again, thanks to you!" She snarled towards Charles. He shifted his gaze onto the prudent woman, then spoke,

"My name is Charles Frank, and I for one, am honoured to be here. I have left my children behind only to secure their future on this land. And I believe you should all feel the same" he spoke sarcastically towards Sophia, growling out his words through clenched teeth. The little boy interrupted,

"It's Lovley, T...to meet you. I... I'm Timothy." His voice shook with every word.

"M..my mum and dad, t...they are b...blacksmiths. I...I love them so much" tears begun streaming down the boys face, Sophia pulled him into her side. Squishing his face against her tight corset. The twins faces had turned towards me, I was next I guess,

" I'm Kaya, I don't have any parents, their both dead. Also I read, I guess. That's it really" and it was true. My parents had died when I was young, leaving me to be raised at St. Giorgiana's orphanage. I hadn't minded it there though despite the constant work, and I had been to young to even remember my parents. not many kids were at the orphanage, which drew me to books. I loved to read, listening to the magical tales of princes and fairies. The only time orphanage had even given me new clothes was when they found out I was to be sacrificed, which was lucky I guess. And they got to parade around their orphan to the kingdom, all dressed up so as not to ruin their reputation.I was wearing them now, the ankle high brown boots sat on top of my black leggings. I had a maroon skirt that hung just below my knees with a terqouise button up shirt tucked in and a brown cloak over the top. The gloves I wore matched the colour of my skirt, but they were old and tattered. I had been greatful for the clothes at the time, glad to finally have a new pair, then I had realised that I would only get to wear them for one day. Then I would die, but I guess right now, things were looking rather hopeful.
