i tugged my boots back onto my feet as I squeezed into the small space in the wall, followed by Cassius. I slid myself to the back of the box so that Cassius could sit near the door. My back pressed up against what felt like metal bars, like a cage. Then without warning Cassius slammed the door shut, yelling to the tower,

"Short cut to the goo room, fast!" The box lerched backwards, slamming my head against the bars behind me. I winced in pain as the box began shooting downwards, making me hover slightly above the bottom. A sharp right, shoving me to the side. Back up, pressing my already bruised tailbone against the hard metal floor. Cassius grunted with every turn as we were thrown from side to side. I could feel his body heat against my legs, sometimes his weight came crashing against me, crushing me between him and the bars. The box came to a sudden stop, throwing me forwards and into Cassius. I groaned as I sat up, clutching my bruised everything.

"What the hell!?" I shouted into the darkness.

"Fun right?" Cassius chuckled. I shot a menacing glare in his direction before realising that he couldn't see me.

"We climb out your end of the box, whatever your idea is, it better work or I'm shutting that door and leaving you to die" he explained morbidly.

"Good to know" I commented, shuffling my position in the box so that I could reach the key at my waist. I had to slip my arm out of the bars slightly to reach it, only to find that there was nothing out there, no wall, just nothing. I shivered as I pulled the key out, facing the exit. The thought of being suspended in nothing scared me, not that I would ever admit it. I took in a large shaking breath, tightening my grip on the key and placing my hand on the door out.

"You can do this" I mumbled to myself, before gripping the door and sliding it open.

A dim green glow flowed into the box, pulling me out of the darkness. I gripped the edge of the box and slid myself out, there was a slight drop before I hit a stone floor. I dragged my gaze upwards, looking into the depth of the room. There was nothing inside, just a small dot of green in the centre of the room, it's dim light shining. I heard footsteps behind me as Cassius followed me out of the box. I tightened my grip on the key, pressing its cold edges into my palm, it heated up in response.

"What now?" I spoke in hushed tones towards Cassius. Before he could reply, there was an echo throughout the room. It sounded like chains, metal scraping against stone. My eyes darted across the room, beyond the green speck, to the corner of the room. Despite the constant green glow, the corner was shrouded in darkness. I squinted my eyes, hoping to get a better look. It moved. Pale manacled legs, shifting closer to the body they belonged to. I shuffled my foot closer,

"No!" The figure screamed, it was crisp and raspy, like this person had been screaming for years, and yet it seemed feminine.

"Not a step closer!" She called, more hushed this time. I didn't move, just glanced back at Cassius who nodded, motioning me to keep talking. I took in a deep breath, steadying my voice,

"Why not?" I asked shyly, the figure chuckled slightly.

"The man has been here before, he should have told you. I'm stuck, if you get any closer, the goo will kill you" she explained, voice as quiet as possible.

"Can you get yourself free at least? Ask the tower?"

"No, I have tried many times. It was the will of the people that put me here, that I would never escape" the voiced sounded sad, scared. I sighed in frustration, glancing towards the green goo in the middle of the room. I could get to her, before the goo got to me. I could unlock her chains, but... she said people put her here. What if they had a good reason? I slumped my shoulders, deep in thought. When suddenly the goo began to rise, the small dot now shooting straight up and shaping itself. It's warm green glow changed to a chilling blue, I made my decision. My legs were moving before I could fully comprehend what I was doing, I dived straight for the girl, dodging a blast of acid as I slid on the ground.

"Hey! Over here you ugly pile of sludge!"
It was Cassius. I smiled slightly at the thought of him helping. But my peace didn't last long, the acid split in two. And one came crawling towards me. I scrambled towards the chained feet of the girl, gripping the key tightly in my hand, I shoved it into the lock, jiggling it around in a frenzy. I glanced behind me, it was almost able to grab me when I heard a click. She was free. A sliming ball of acid came flying towards me. As if in slow motion, my eyes widened as I was tugged back by my arm, and the mysterious girl blocked the acids path towards me. I could see her now. I could see her dull brown eyes, I could see her long black hair, falling messily across her face, I could see her pale white skin. I could see the streaming wet tears dragging down her fragile cheeks. She looked my age, maybe older. Then it stopped, time caught up and in an instant I realised she had just been hit with a ball of acid.

"Get up!" She yelled at me, as we began stumbling along the walls of the room, trying to escape the oncoming death behind us. I looked around the room, Cassius was cornered on the opposite side of the room, trickles of acid slowly sizzling against his defending arm. I gritted my teeth, pulling away from the pale girl. I had to try and kill it. I squeezed the key in my hand as I shot my arm out towards the monster. I felt a sharp pain in my hand as the key heated in response. Then, it was over. I sighed in relief as darkness consumed the now lifeless room.
