I slumped back against the stone wall, grateful the monster was gone. I heaved a sigh as I slid the now cool key back into the waistband of my skirt. I could hear the final sizzles of acid on Cassius' skin, the panting of the mysterious girl who sat in front of me. I squeezed my eyes shut, replaying the moments through my head. I had killed it, Cassius got hurt, and the girl. My eyes flung open as I recalled her tear soaked face, while she was shot with a ball of acid. I crawled through the pitch black room, towards the sound of her disheveled breath. I reached out into the darkness and was met with ice cold skin, she flinched.
"You got hurt" I said, my voice reverberated through the room.
"Yeah, and I thought I would run" Cassius called back. I rolled my eyes, though I'm sure no one saw.
"I wasn't talking to you, but I'm glad your okay" I replied. I latched on to what felt like her arm, pulling her closer towards me. I whispered close to what I thought was her ear.
"Are you okay?" I questioned. I heard her suck in a breath as her raspy voice sounded once again,
"I'm fine" she spoke with an edge to her words which made a slight twinge of anger spark inside me. I was just trying to be nice, and yet I was sure that her back was severely wounded. We had to get out of here, now. Her wound needed to be treated.
"We have to go" I spoke louder this time, hoping Cassius would know where to go.
"I suppose the tower can't stop us from getting to the master bedroom now, alright then, tower how do we get there?" He sounded fine, still as irritating as earlier. I guess that meant he was okay. I heard the sound of stone grinding against itself, then,
"Understood, please just exit the room and take the elevator to the top floor" the towers voice still echoed in my chest as I pulled the girl up off the ground. We began to fumble in the dark looking for a door,
"Found it!" Cassius yelled into the room. Then a large block of light entered the room from the hallway outside. I turned to the girl beside me, she no longer had tears running down her cheeks, but she was still pale. Almost grey, maybe white, with long black hair messily shoved behind her shoulders. For someone who had supposedly been locked away for a long time she sure didn't look starved or unhealthy. Her eyes turned towards me, racking up and down my body, I froze under her piercing gaze. She gave me a small smile before she began walking out of the room. my face fell as I searched her exposed back for any sign of blood, only to find nothing. I quickly followed the two out of the room, the hallway was different this time. It looked like and old hotel, with red carpet lining the wooden floors, with pristine flower print wallpaper covering the top half of the walls, wood panels beneath. I looked left and right, both were never ending rows of doors. Darkness took over the far depths on each end, I felt my hands begin to rattle for the millionth time today. I balled them into fists as we walked straight towards a door with a sign carved beside it, it read elevator .
"Alright kid, I'll admit. Whatever you did back there was pretty cool" Cassius called as he pushed the button for the elevator.
"Thanks" I mumbled. I couldn't stop thinking about the girl beside me.
"Hey, why were you locked in there in the first place?" I asked. Head tilted towards the girl, her mouth fell open and her eyes widened.
"Let's wait, I told you and your friends I would answer all your questions when we were somewhere safe. That goes for any questions, no matter who too. You never know what's around the corner" Cassius called back to me. I wanted them answered now, while I was still okay, while I was still full of adrenaline. The was a ding signifying the elevators arrival, we all stepped inside. Cassius pressed the button for the top floor, number 234.
"How are there that many floors?" I questioned.
"Ha, That isn't all there is. This is just an elevator to the 5th floor, numbers don't really mean anything here" Cassius answered. The elevator sprang into action, shooting straight up. I was slammed down to the ground, along with the others
