=--Allison--=
Although it was suspicious, it was also nice. Mrs. Caster has been around the house more often, but not acting like herself. She cleaned. Most of the whole house.
Yesterday, the day after the gala, she came out of her room and smirked at me, before starting to clean up the house. She hasn't spoken a word at all.
So now here I am. It is Sunday, two days after the gala, and the last day of break for the kids.
"Breakfast is ready!" I call out to all the kids nearby, hoping they will pass on the message. I clean up and make sure all the kids get something before sitting down on the counter. Just before I enter a daze there is loud knocking on the door.
I fix my bun, which probably still looks messy, but oh well. And walk to the door. Before I open it I check my clothes, baggy shirt, sweatpants, and socks. At least I look semi-presentable.
"How may I help you?" I ask while opening the door. Behind it, there is Bruce Wayne and the British man from the gala that opened the door.
"Hello, do you have your things ready yet?" Bruce asks making me confused.
"What things?" I ask him, the same time Mrs. Caster comes running down the hall.
"BRUCE, HUN!" She gives him a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. "Allison, dear, did I forget to mention? SIlly me. You are getting adopted." She gives me a sickly sweet smile while putting her hand on my arm.
I went blank. I tried to think of a comeback, a question, a response. I couldn't even remember my own name.
"Alli, what's going on?" Alex comes up behind me and shoes Mrs. Catsrs hand off my arm, and slinging his arm around my shoulders.
"Tarp. Tarp, tarp tarp tarp tarp. ALEX! FUCKING TARP!" Alex immediately lets go of me and sprints away, repeating my command to all the kids. I shove my foot on the back of Mrs. Caster's knee, making her fall to the floor. I slam the door on the guests and run to my room. I don't bother trying to make the corners and end up running into walls when turning, but soon I make it up to my room.
"ALLISON!" Alex runs up to me and pulls me inside. "What's wrong? Are you okay? Who was there?" He lets me sit on the bed and sits behind me.
"I'm leaving." I blurt out, not knowing how to tell him.
He freezes before standing up and backing away from me. "No. No, no no. Alli, come on. Tell me you are joking. You, you promised. You said you would stay with us!" His breathing starts to quicken and he continues to back away.
"I will come back! Alex, I swear to god, I will come back. Even if I am a fucking ghost, I will come back. I swear it to you. I will bring you food, and help you cook in the morning. I keep my promises. Every single last one. My promises don't go to waste." I tell him standing up and walking towards him.
He laughs slightly, although it is bitter, and hurt. "That sounds like something my sister would have said." He leans his head against the wall behind him. When I walk up to him he pulls me into a hug. "You remind me of my sister Allison. I can't lose you like I lost her. I can't lose anyone else, Allison. Not again." Alex sniffles and pulls me closer. I knew Alex thought of me as a sister, and to be honest, I thought of him as a brother figure.
"Listen, Alex, the kids are going to need you. You need to take care of the kids when I can't. I will be back as soon as I can. Don't let them lose hope. Alex, don't lose hope." I pull away from him when I hear faint footsteps coming down the hall. I open the door fully and look down the hall. "HINGE! HINGE!" I say the codeword a few times, making some kids slowly come outside.
