Maybe past experience had gotten to me more than I would like to admit. So when the middleman took some steps forward I moved Sam to the other hip further away from him.
"Hello, we are here to speak to Mrs. Caster, is she available?" He spoke up keeping a neutral face on.
I had done enough snooping to know that she usually disappeared to go gambling. Probably why she would stay out for multiple days at a time and how she could lose so much money.
"She is not even-" A new voice that I recognized as Kyle started to speak coming up behind me. I pinched his arm getting him to stop and I shot him a 'don't you dare' look. "Awake yet. She likes to sleep in." Kyle finished looking at me for approval of his lie. I nodded at him and turned back to the men.
"Would you like me to give her a message?" I asked them trying to be polite, but also find out what they are here for.
"Just give her this. Tell her Bruce Wayne will be expecting 2 kids, a minimum of 1 to join you." The middleman who I think is in charge sope again, handing me a flyer. I nodded and smiled saying goodbye going back inside.
Once I was sure they were gone I walked into the kitchen with Kyle trailing behind me and set Sam down on a chair. He crawled off of it and lay down to sleep on the floor. I look down at the pamphlet and start to read it. Apparently, it was a Wayne Fundraiser. He probably only wanted to invite us because he donated to us, or because he was an orphan or something.
It was set for three days, I found it funny how it marked the day that is one month until I am free. Well, I used to think one day being free was a good thing, but now that I am here, I am not sure about that.
The front door closed with a bang snapping me out of my thoughts. There is only one person who slams doors like that and that person is Mrs. Caster. I am still confused as to why we call her Mrs. Caster if she isn't married, but apparently, they wanted a divorce but couldn't get it legalized, so they just broke up. I grabbed the pamphlet and walked up to Mrs. Caster as she was putting her coat in the coat-rack by the door.
"Mrs. Caster, this came for you today," I said handing her the pamphlet. She looked at it with disgust and was about to hand it back to me., "It is from Bruce Wayne." I tried to get her to look at it.
She read it over a couple times before looking up at me with a devious smirk. "You better have a dress girl, you are coming with me. Bring one of the little ones too. Black and white theme girly, so wear something nice." She told me practically prancing away. She probably is excited to try and get people to take us away.
I shook my head and ran to where Sam was scooping him up into my arms. "Hey Sammy, we are going to go shopping. You like that?" I questioned him running up the stairs to my room. I opened the door to see Alex bouncing a ball on the wall opposite him sitting on a bed. "Alex get your shoes we are going shopping," I told him with a smile slipping on my shoes picking up some cash.
I didn't give him time to reply because I was already downstairs by the front door waiting. Sam bounced in my arms excited for this adventure while I laughed at his antics. I watched as Alex came flying down the stairs and running down the hallway a sweater half on his shoulders and shoes barely on. He straightened himself out walking past me and Sam and out the door.
We got to a thrift shop that I figured would have cheap dress and such and walk inside. Earlier Alex had asked about where we were going so I told him what was going on.
When the chime above the door went off the man at the desk smiled at us and got up from his seat. "Hello, and what can I do for you?" He walks to us and asks, he is not much taller than Alex who is a couple inches taller than me.
