funny thing mao and ezlyn actually have a pretty rough start
tbh ezlyn probably says something passive aggressive about one of her friends and mao happens to overhead so she swims over and is like "SORRY??? SAY THAT TO MY FACE?????" and then every time they encounter each other from that point on it's just not good

But yeah Lyra is friends with both mao and ezlyn but neither of them know (and she doesn't know they're enemies) until she introduces them and they're like "REALLY THIS ONE OUT OF ALL MERMAIDS???E W"
but they eventually start getting along because Lyra gets tired of their sh*t and makes them work some of their problems out so they can be in the same room together without ripping each other's throats our uwu
Turns out they have a lot more in common than they thought...
and then eventually there's mutual unrequited pining and then they FINALLY start dating
