Luke's Point of View
I huffed and slammed the door behind me. I had just gotten into a fight with Tyler, who along with Daniel became my Beta. I had Daniel and Tyler running patrols around the pack area and Tyler was getting fed up with the long hours. I punched the wall, I was on edge and more volatile ever since Iris and I had started to float apart. She started to push me away ever since she realized that she couldn't use her powers. Her wolf had abandoned her and she abandoned me. I had tried many times to get her to come back and live in the pack house, but she seemed to prefer to sleep in the woods. I haven't seen her in weeks and every day I died a little more inside. My wolf clawed and howled at me when she first left but now he was quiet and miserable. He too was fading without his mate.
"Luke!" Daniel yelled as he burst into my room.
"What?" I snapped but the look on his face made me stop in my tracks, "Daniel? Whats wrong?" There was only one thing that could make a werewolf look like that and that was if something happened to his mate. I had seen that look of total pain, the only way of describing it would be a man being buried alive. His blue eyes seemed far away and tears were streaked down his face.
"Melina." The words fell from his lips and fresh tears fell from his eyes.
"What happened?" I asked
"Melina's missing!" Daniel cried before he hit his knees. "She went for a walk in the woods yesterday and I have been searching all night and I haven't been able to find her!" He sobbed
"Get Tyler and assemble all of our males, do not alert the females but Ginger, she needs to stay here and keep the females safe. Do you understand?" I ordered and Daniel hiccuped himself sober before standing up and fleeing from the room. When the door closed my stomach tightened. What if what happened to Melina happened to Iris? My Iris? I couldn't let that happen.

We had searched for days for Melina but there was no sign of her in the woods at all. Her smell, like Iris's was scattered all across the forest by the wind, but no one could pick up where she was. We all set out to look for Melina but I knew in my heart I was really looking for Iris. As we walked every sound, every whiff of her scent made me perk up and look around for my lost angel. After three days straight of looking we all dispersed and the others moved on with their lives, even I was doubting that we would ever find Melina. Iris remained in the shadows, I could smell her scent in concentrations around the forest, where she had stopped for a period of time, but she always danced out of sight. I knew she was still in the forest so I decided to leave her alone, she would come to me when she felt like it and I knew that. I loved her more than life itself but she needed space and that was what I would give her. I sat in my room staring at a photo of her that I had taken a long time ago. She was in a green dress that she said was her favorite. We went for a walk and it had started to rain so I was rushing her back to the pack house so that she wouldn't get sick but the sun came out. She looked so beautiful dancing in the rain with the sun glinting off her hair that I had to snap a photo for my wallet. This photo was the only way of seeing her lately. The thought of not seeing her suffocated my brain and my breath stopped coming easily. Melina was missing and so was my Iris. I had to find Iris, just hold her one last time. I got up, shoving the photo into my pocket, and ran from my room and straight into Cecelia.
"Get out of my way!" I yelled and Cecelia puffed up and looked at me defiantly.
"And just who do you think you are talking to like that?" She snapped at me crossing her arms and looking at with eyes full of angry pity.
"You. Now out of my way. I'm going to look for your sister." I said trying to duck around her and run out of the pack house. Her eyes widened and her attitude changed completely.
"Your going to look for her?" She asked. "Thank you!" She cried throwing her arms around my waist. Her face shone up at me with respect and what little breath I had left my body in a strangled sob. Cecelia looked so much like Iris right now that it made me want to cry. I shoved her away and ran from the pack house as if the dogs of hell were after me. I ran into the woods and sniffed around for Iris' scent which I was alarmed was no where in the air. Where was she? I heard a deafening blood curdling scream and launched myself through the forest in search of Iris. It was a females scream it had to have been her. Or Melina? I thought for a second before sending a mind link to Daniel that I heard a scream in the forest and was going in search of where it eminated from.
'On my way.' Daniel thought back and I sighed secretly hoping it was Melina who was in trouble and not my Iris. That scream did not sound good and I knew that when I found her it would not be pretty. I heard the scream again, a lot closer and launched in that direction, the smell of stale blood in the air. I sniffed for Iris but the only scent of hers that lingered was old and different than her usual smell. When I cleared the last log and crashed into the clearing I saw Melina covered in blood. I ran forward and she looked at me with wide eyes before crying into the blood soaked thing she was knelt beside. I ran forward and fell to my knees beside her, she flung her arms around me and sobbed into my shirt.
"What happened to you?" I asked her. She shook her head and continued to cry. "Are you okay?" I asked trying to pry something from her and she cried harder.
"Shhhh..... Its okay Daniels on his way here its okay its okay." I said comforting her. I let my eyes wander around the clearing and the smell of death and decay hit my nose. I looked down at the blood sodden something next to us and something jerked at the back of my mind. I had seen this before. I stood up as Daniel came crashing into the clearing and tears came like waterfalls from his eyes when they fell upon Melina. She looked up and ran to him, falling into his arms sobbing. They both fell to their knees on the spot kissing and crying and clutching one another. I closed my eyes. It made my heart hurt for Iris and I turned away from them, hanging my head. I opened my eyes staring at the ground and the blood saturated thing Melina was next to. Iris' face covered in blood stared accusingly up at me.
"Luke?" Daniel asked questioningly for I had fallen to my knees in agony.
"Shes dead!" I screamed at him and my heart refused it to be true. I listened for her non existent heartbeat. Nothing. Her scent had long since died away. Her arm was missing and blood pooled around it and the knife that was sunk into her chest. Her skin was paler and her blood was smudged all over her stark white flesh. The smudged blood resembled exotic tattoos on a lost ancient queen. I reached out and tried to rub the blood away from her beautiful face with my sleeve but the blood didn't move at all. The patterns stayed on her, and I pulled her into my lap crying and clutching at her, wishing this was all a joke.

"You need to let her go Daniels words came to me from a far away place. A place where it was possible to be happy. A place where your life didn't die and leave you an empty husk without a purpose. Hands reached out and tried to tug Iris' body from my hands I hugged her closer. Melina put her hand on my shoulder and Ginger finally succeeded in retrieving Iris' body from me. I felt completely empty now. I had nothing. I stood up, a idea popping into my head. If we couldn't be together in life, we sure as hell could be together in death.
