TW: Homophobia

"As the Scripture has stated at Ruth 1:16, 'And Ruth said, Do not entreat me to leave you and turn away from following after you. For wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you dwell, I will dwell; your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.' This verse tells us that..."

Roman zoned out from his dad's preaching to look at his long time boyfriend, Patton. They are both church kids, you see. Born and raised to hate homosexuals, and yet they themselves were.

Patton noticed the staring and looked at Roman to wave. Roman felt his cheeks go red and gave a small smile back before his mom called his attention to listen.

"Ruth is the symbol of loyalty. She went with her mother-in-law even though she was told to go back..."

Roman zoned out again and this time, he made sure that he could stare at Patton back. He knew that his other two friends, Logan and Virgil, were staring at him in confusion.

He never actually told them about his secret affair with Patton, all they knew was that they were close friends. Roman reassured himself, they were totally fine with the gays and he was sure Virgil supported the LGBT+ community.

Logan... that is a whole different story. His manners were all thought out and precise. This would totally throw Logan off his usual composure.

Roman looked back at Patton, who was openly staring and signed.

Do you want to come out to L-O-G-A-N and V-I-R-G-I-L?

Patton glanced to the two and gave a small shrug. He was lucky that Logan got to teach Patton and he the very few basics of the sign language.

He knew Logan was watching so he made sure to make it subtle.

As the sermon ended, the four gathered to meet each other. "Roman!" Patton threw hinself onto the prince-like teen's arms. Roman chuckled to himself. Virgil and Logan came into view and waved.

"Hello to you too, Patton. Greetings to you both, Logan and Virgil."

"'Sup, Princey."

"Salutations, Roman."

It's now or never, Roman.

"Can we talk... somewhere private, perhaps?" They could sense Roman's anxiety levels rising so they went to a place that was more secluded and decided to talk about random things to ease the tension.

Well, that was more of Patton trying to ease off the tension. Virgil was fidgeting and Logan was most likely calculating in his mind the number of possibilities this conversation could go wrong.

"What is it that you want to discuss with us, Roman?" Logan said, pushing his glasses higher (also maybe to make himself look smarter than he actually is). Roman sighed, "Don't freak out, but... I'm gay."

Virgil groaned as he pulled out twenty bucks and handed it to Logan, who smirked in victory and proudly said, "I had my suspicions about your sexuality. I also may be correct that you are dating... Patton, is it?"

Roman hesitantly nodded as Virgil's groans grew louder as he pulled out another twenty. "I'm going to be broke in no time.."

"At least you know I'm gay-"

They heard a glass break from the opposite side of the room and they saw that Roman's dad stood there, frozen. "Son, please tell me I didn't just hear what I think I just heard."

Roman gulped but stood his ground. "Its true, Dad. I have no desire of girls only boys..."

His dad made a face and turned around, "You are no longer family to me. From now on, I will see you as a sinner and only a sinner that has defiled God's command. You will be allowed back to the house only if you turn back from your ways. For now, get out of my sight."

Roman felt like crying but he knew he had to find a way to retrieve his belongings from his room. It seemed that the other three knew what he was going to do because they also sprung into action.

They all sped toward their respective houses, gathering the things that Roman had left there. Roman always told them it was for an 'emergency' but now, it became clearer.

Patton's heart thumped loud like he ran a mile, which he sort of did. As he ran to his house to gather Roman's belongings, he also took his own. He knew that this might happen, but didn't actually expect it to become the outcome.

They all gathered at their meeting area: the old abandoned building that had seemingly good wifi. It seemed suspicious that it had good wifi but they didn't care. Wifi is wifi.

Roman stood there, waiting patiently with his small worn out bag. It seemed Logan and Virgil were carrying their own bags but it didn't really matter a lot. Roman, on the other hand, looked confused as to why his friends brought their own bags.

"I told you to bring my bags, but why-?"

"You were missing some stuff when we checked the list so I bought you some stuff in case. I knew that this was probably the outcome when you would come out to your dad, even though it isn't the ideal coming out plan anyone would've had in mind," Virgil shrugged nonchalantly.

Roman smirked, "Aww, he actually cares."

Logan smiled and said, "Here. This is very important."

"How so...?"

"It contains enough to pay at least 5 years of your rent. It was my college money but since my parents had that covered a long time before I was born, I thought I could give it to you. I mean, it would be of better use."

Roman covered his mouth and nearly cried.

"I wanted to save for myself but it seemed that you needed it more. Just remember to look for me. It doesn't matter if I would be successful or if I would be an average, I will always be there for you, Roman."

Roman repeatedly said thank you to Logan, who waved him off and walked away with Virgil, who wished the best of luck to Roman. As Roman decided to leave, he noticed that Patton was still there, waiting and staring.

"Patton? What are you still doing there?"

"Roman, I want to be like Ruth. I want to go with you..."

Patton's arms snaked his way around Roman's waist as Roman's arms also found it way toward Patton's neck. "Because I love you..."

Roman smashed his lips with Patton's, giving out a small moan as Patton's grip on him grew tighter. Patton found this as the entrance of Roman's mouth and explored it.

This continued for a few moments and Roman pulled back, saying,

"You better get ready~"
