Capital Cities - Safe and Sound

Avery Donavon and Bellamy Blake's hands intertwined as they sat beside each other. Emori looked to Avery who sent her a reassuring smile. "Boys and girls, meet Eligius IV." Raven said, reading from the moniter. "Powering a better tomorrow."

"Must be a mining ship." Avery said to the group.

"Mining in space?" Echo asked.

"My mom and dad told me stories when I was a kid." Avery began. "Missions sent to mine asteroids or search for habitable planets, but that was a hundred of years ago before the war even started."

Raven turned to her friend. "What kind of stories were you told as a child?"

Avery tilted her head to the side. "That's not the point, Raven, but I remember my dad saying that they never come back. Everyone just assumed that they were dead."

"They got back somehow." Monty finished before looking to Raven. "Which also means they must have fuel."

"Well, now there's a ship with a story to tell." Raven replied as the group got a proper look of the ship from the moniter. "It looks like one of the engines was destroyed."

Avery had to add something. "At least the hub is still rotating. That rotation means they'll have gravity."

Raven looked to Avery and Bellamy. "Sorry, lovebirds. No zero-g space sex."

Avery smiled to the girl. "Shove off." she replied before looking to the camera. "There's the docking bay. Mori, it's like we practiced the last time and not the hundred times before." she said before putting a hand on her shoulder. "Do you remember the rules?"

"Don't panic." Emori said.

"And breath." Avery added, looking to the girl with a small smile. "Breath, Mori."

"I hate to ask this now-" Monty began.

Avery shot back to him almost immidetly. "I love you Monty but it's a bit too late."

"OK. Commencing Operation Uninvited Guests." Emori called. "Firing thrusters in 3, 2, 1."

Avery felt the engines roar under her, her breath hitching at the back of her throat before she squeezed tighter onto Bellamy's hands, her eyes closing.

He put his other hand on her's, their shoulders touching which made shivers run down Avery's spine and butterflies start fluttering inside her stomach. She always loved how he made her feel the same way like when they first met.

She turned off the sound from her helmet, a yelp coming out of her mouth when the ship crashed into the hanger bag.

She opened her eyes slowly before turning her microphone and speakers on.

Avery left her suit in the cargo hold, taking her pair of batons with her in her hands while waiting for Bellamy to go through.

She looked up, the alarm sounding as they opened the door. "That's just annoying." Bellamy said as Avery handed a baton to him. "Thanks babe."

Avery smiled back before Monty come in front of them. "If someone was here, they'd shut it off, right?" he said.

"Yes." she told him. "Don't worry, Monty. We are alone as alone can be. And I've got this." Avery held a USB drive to Monty.

"You kept that?" He asked. "You kept AID?"

Avery looked to Monty. "Her name is AMY and she's an artificial intelligence that I used to restore the security protocols on the ark. It means I can also disable any security protocols in any ship unless it was made in the past 5 years which I think is unlikely, Monty."
