Does it ever drive you crazy
Just how fast the night changes?
Everything that you've ever dreamed of
Disappearing when you wake up

Your POV

I did not expect to find ears on my head. Well, to find ears, but not EARS.

On my head were a pair of animal ears. My ash-brown hair was messy, but the same, everything but the ears were the same.

I took that bath, definitely clearing my head from what had happened, my attention had shifted, to my ears. I examined the ears in the mirror. They unmistakably resembled fox ears. Orange hinted with black accents.

I shakingly put on a pair of black pants and a black hoodie from my bag, covering my head. I sighed. Maybe they were right. I shouldn't leave like this. Still, I didn't know these people. Although they seemed nice, so did Rose, at first.

I met Peter as I opened the bathroom door.

"Have you seen the star wars movies?"

"I, uh... no?" I said, surprised by the question. I hadn't heard of that before

"Then girl are you in for a treat!" A wide smile filled his face.

How could someone talk so regularly to a stranger? I could barely discuss with Phil properly. The brunet helped me to a sofa, the one I had been sitting on before. He told me to wait while he made popcorn. What the hell was popcorn?

It was still morning, but I didn't mind. I really couldn't do anything. I checked so that my ears were still covered.

A marvellous smell filled my nose. Peter came back with a big bowl of popcorn. It was mostly white, but some pieces were yellow. I tasted one, and honestly, they were fantastic.

Peter pressed the remote, and the movie started.

I felt my ear twitch. It was an odd feeling, almost like moving a limb after a fracture. I heard a louder sound, barely a second later, when a book found its way to the floor. I flinched at the surprisingly loud sound. I shook the feeling off and continued with the movie.

I couldn't help getting lost in all the sword fighting, space-ships and guns. Sure, the loud noises did hurt my ears, but I looked over the small inconvenience.

I think we started the next movie somewhere, but I didn't pay attention enough to remember.

The woman returned, she, must've been in the garden. Dirt laid gently in her hair, and a leaf or two stood straight up.

"Pete, could you go to the store?"

With a mouthful of freshly popped popcorn, he nodded, "Sure!"

May handed him a piece of paper and a credit card, and he ran off.

She slowly turned towards me. "I wanted to speak to you."

I felt the calmness I had from the movie quickly drain out. "Erm... Okay."

"Remember, nobody can hurt you here." She started, which freaked me out even more. "Is everything okay? At home, I mean."

I realized what May was talking about. "I'm not getting abused at home, I assure you." A wave of confidence hit as I defended my family.

"Then?" She started, but I intervened before she could continue.

"Let's just say I'm not very liked everywhere."

I felt proud of how well I had handled the conversation. Not once did I stumble over my words. And damn, I sounded professional.

"Right." She sighed. "I can show you where you can stay for the night."

I almost forgot. I still had to stay with these people until I could use that foot. Only the thought made me irritated. These people weren't bad, I just didn't like people. My eyes drifted to a clock. 6:54 PM. I

thought it'd be less.

May and I walked into a room at the far end of the apartment. I noticed that the bed was slightly unmade and a photo decorated the bedside-table. This was her room. May's.

"I... I can't." Oh good job (y/n), you just had to screw that up. "I can sleep on the, um, couch."

"What? No!" A surprised look covered her face.

"It's fine. I wouldn't be able to sleep in someone else's bed anyway."

"You're sleeping on the bed. That's final." I heard the door open as May spoke.

"You know my bed's a bunk bed, right."

"But."

"I'm a guy, and she's a girl." He started. "What does that matter?"

"Are you okay with that?" May looked at me now.

"Uh, yeah?" I questioned myself.

"Good. I want food." I was sure I heard Peter's stomach growl.

I walked to the bathroom. The first thing I did was look at my ears. I studied them once more. They were soft.

I listened to the voices around me. May and Peter were in the kitchen, I heard a voice above me and a laugh underneath me somewhere. I detected the water running through the pipes.

It was driving me crazy, how every little sound found my ears. I was one to like the silence. But ever since I got here, ever since I got these ears, the sounds couldn't seem to stop. The small of my back ached. My eyes hurt, and I just wanted to sleep. Still, I had to figure out how to escape. I could rest when I... when I was... safe?

I felt distress as I thought that. Maybe I was safe. But I doubted that was the case. I dragged my sleeve up, looking at the only slightly healed wounds. I sighed. Sure, they hurt, but I was used to it. If I just found a way out.

I heard a loud ring in my ears.

"What is happening to me?"
