The spring semester kind of went by in a blur. There was no change in season. South Florida was as bright and beautiful as ever. I don't think I wore a proper jacket the whole alleged 'winter'. While it didn't snow in San Antonio it at least got a little chilly. My poor winter wardrobe lamented its lack of use.
Before I knew it Spring Break was right around the corner. I could tell especially because of the congestion at the malls and the sudden influx of foreign languages I heard bouncing around the air.
Erika decided that we should go to Coconut Beach because the beach is where it was at. Everyone was going to be there. We'd hit up some club called Platinum, she had connections, and have brunch at this trendy spot called Lucky 6.
Literally everybody was going to be there. Which was exactly why that was where I didn't want to be.
I let my friends in on a few of my concerns and this was of course met with surly looks and reprimands about being a joy sucker. Hey, I was trying to live up to my nickname.
Quickly I learned it was a battle I would likely lose. Kendra was going home for the break so who might have been the only one I could bring to my side was long gone.
Thus, I ended up trailing them down to Coconut Beach. As expected there was no beach. It was covered with human bodies. Yes, they were swim suit clad and surely intoxicated but still.
I put on a bright face and tried to enjoy myself. Before I knew it I was having fun. Haley, ever the social butterfly, made friends with some people on the beach and we were able to chill under their tent. Their DJ was playing really good music. They even offered us drinks.
We politely declined, the beach, alcohol, and the hot sun did not go together.
We got a hotel room with one queen sized bed and stayed up most of the first night chatting and watching late night television. Then on the second night we attempted to get into Platinum free before 12. I know I said I was never clubbing again. But Haley informed me that I would ruin her night if I didn't come. So I put on the sexy dress I'd gotten for Christmas totally delighting my curly haired friend.
When we got to the club the line was hella long. But when we got inside it was empty. They were holding the line so that people wouldn't make it in before 12 to make money! After all of that it turned out that the DJ was pretty whack and we spent the rest of the night pretending to have fun. On our third night we went out to dinner at this place Haley's mom had recommended. It was the bomb.com.
Overall, what I enjoyed most about our spring break weekend was spending time with Haley and Erika. I spent a lot of time with Kendra between KidzCorner and the general fact that we just got along really well. But this trip allowed me to spend quality time with the other girls.
I was able to see how we perfectly balanced each other. Haley was hyper and daring. She wasn't afraid to hit on the guy at the front desk for access to the VIP gym. And she was a magician at getting free food. But she was also pretty whimsical and absentminded. While Erika was very straight forward and to the point. She was also very observant and shrewd. So she never slept in or forgot things. They really completed each other.
I had a lot to learn from them both.
When we got back to school I was lounging around my dorm room playing games on my phone missing my little friend when her name popped up on my phone screen.
"Kendra!"
"Hi, Jenny."
I shifted myself to a sitting position, her voice sounded strange.
