I heard a knock at the door. Glancing at the screen to see my subordinate Mr.Carter there. I muttered come in and got back to work
"Good morning,Miss"
I glanced at him and nodded as a confirmation for him to speak.
"Ma'am the business is doing fine. The-"
"How many times shall I remind you to tell me about the needs?. I am here to serve people, not just to run a business" I spoke with a lot of professionalism.
He looked at me with a glint of disappointment in his eyes but he took my ignorance as a cue to continue. He spoke, "Ma'am,the custumors are increasing but so are the demands for one to one. I had a talk with Mr Willows and he said that he wants to talk to you about it"
I studied him and nodded . The glint of disappointment still adorned his face.
Yeah, I hated it but nothing can or should come between me and my business not even relations.
He has been there with me since the start of my company. He was about the age little younger than my dad. He was among those people who had done so much for me that I couldn't even imagine repaying. Once in case of an urgent need, he sold his bike to put money in my project. The amount I received at that time might have been paid back but that gesture can only be returned by love. These actions make you feel that you are not alone in this world. There are people who care for you and will stand by you whatever the circumstances may be.
I am an entrepreneur, the head of the board of a website which is for people who need emotional or mental help. Though the world today progressed yet sadly the people minds haven't .
Till now a person who visits a psychologist is considered mad. I dunno how they could be so dumb. Woah first you make people life a living hell and then when they need help,you start calling them idiots.
I hate this world. To the the world I am a rude bitch who gives a damn about everyone.
Selfish,mean,arrogant ,heartless and cold are some adjectives used for me but I love all of these adjectives .
Yes, the world has changed me. I have trusted people and got deceived so many times that it's a crime for me to trust. However, there are a few exceptions .
My family.
All the people who I love are my family. My family is one who stood by me through everything and have a place for themselves within the sky scraper high walls surrounding my heart. I can do anything for them.
Anything.
Then comes my business. I can't afford anything to become a hindrance in working. It's my principle that when I am working nobody is my anybody. I just am Evelyn Stanford.
Only my parents can come and meet me when I am working. Other than that everyone needs a appointment with a valid reason. I am a very strict person when it comes to my job. People don't like me for that and I can't care less.
Recently , there has been an increase in the demands of one to one confrontation. They think that it would be better if they could meet up with psychologists and talk to them.
I don't have a problem with that idea but I've to think about my business as well.
Uncle Ca ... Mr Carter told me to talk to Matt so I dialled his number and waited for him to pick it up.
"Hey Eve! How are you?"the person on the other end asked.
"Mr. Willows " I tried to sound annoyed but who can be annoyed with the Greek God you call your best friend.
"Hell!Speak Miss Stanford" I could imagine him scrunching his nose and squinting his eyes.
"Well,it was you who wanted to speak to me"
" Yes, actually I have been looking up the statistics of your company and noticed the slight deterioration "
"Yeah I know this is all due to one to one problem."I said in an irritated tone.
"You have connections at so many places,why don't you buy some place and just start with it. Are you short of people?"
" No,no,not at all we've got staff working in 23 different cities with each office having at least a hundred people."
"So?"
"If I want to start it up,I have to open branches at multiple places and I don't have many connections with the property dealers. Plus different cities,different dealers,different prices would be worth risking or not?I am not so sure"
"Oh really? You weren't like this when you were starting your company,five years back. You also got the office areas in 17 cities within the span of two years and till date you have 23 offices,woman for God's sake!"
"That was different. I hadn't planned on starting a company. I just wanted to make an application. "
"But then I remember the day you had your first presentation for an office place at San Diego. You said that life is worth taking risks and you had nothing to lose."
"But right now I have everything to lose"
"No,you don't"
"Ok a bit to lose"
"Yes. I'm going to think over it and tell you tomorrow when we meet"
"Tomorrow?"
"We have the monthly friends meet Eve, Lilly is also coming."
"Is she? She didnt tell me."
"She told you yesterday,if you would listen to her."
"Oh yeah sorry I forgot bout that." I shipped these two. He was a player but still. I knew they were meant for each other. " actually I .."
"Am coming,no arguments"With this he hung up.
