The new 'friend'

(Back to Eve's pov)

I woke up the next morning and rushed to work. I was angry with mum so didn't wait for the breakfast. My stomach was grumbling all the time while I was driving till I reached my cabin and ordered a cheese sandwich. I knew the day was going to be busy as I had to look up for property dealers and then go for the meet.
I found a number of corporations that worked in the same field and decided I'll meet up with them the next day probably. I called Levi in my office and asked him to shortlist the list I had prepared. He was my p.a. but I didn't like calling him that. I did not like the concept of superior and inferior posts in my business. I knew we all worked hard and so we were all equally important.

He handed me the revised list after some time. I noticed that he had added the name of a 'Jayce Corporation' in the list.
"Ma'am the CEO of the firm also owns a business of interior designing so if the deal works out, we won't need to look out for designing people." He informed on my inquiry.
I asked him to send Mr Carter as he was leaving.
"Yes ma'am " Mr Carter's voice boomed as he entered my cabin.
"Un... Mr Carter I've to leave a bit early today plus tomorrow I have to visit the dealers. I decided to go for it after I had a talk with dad. So.." I said looking at him, a genuine smile playing on his face. Probably due to my decision.
He replied," Everything will be taken care of. You go to meet the dealers and ya Eve be a bit careful with them. Don't lose your calm. They might not be very good people." He added with a concerned look.
"K dad." I replied to see him smiling. I called him dad at times and he loved it because his son wasn't the caring type and he had no daughter. With this he left.
I finished my work by 6:30 and drove home. I wasn't in a mood to face mum after I skipped the breakfast and also ignored her calls. But Matt had texted me that he would pick me up by 7:30 so I had to.
I rang the bell thrice and waited. The door opened to reveal the person I could expect the least right then.
I was then pulled in a bone-crushing hug thanks to Lilly.
"How are you Lil?" I said as I got back my breath back.
"Better than before. Now come in and get rid of this outfit." She ranted throwing me a distasteful glance.
I looked down at my orange blouse and turquoise green culottes. What was wrong with.. oh my friend was a fasion designer. How can she probably like it? Duh me. I was not your all skinny and curvy, model-bodied girl. I was kinda fat. We'll not exactly but yeah I was not in perfect shape. Plus I loved professional clothes so I felt my eyes narrowing at her look.

Half an hour later I was dressed in a black dress that had a detailed neckline and ended mid thigh. It was cute and belonged to Lilly's collection for me. "You need dresses" was her all time topic about lecturing me so she designed some dresses for me. I paired it with my black stiletto pumps. I loved heels and make up in general till the time the were not overdosed. I did some smokey eye with pink gloss and moved out with my clutch waiting for Lilly.
Mom and dad weren't at home. They had gone to meet some friend of my dad. As per told by Lil, mum wasn't angry but worried if I had eaten anything. No wonder why I loved her so much and not having talked to her since morning was giving me a heartache.
I was on the verge of calling her when the door burst open and entered the Greek God, Matt.
"Hey babes!" He grinned pulling me into a hug. "Hey Matty! " I tried to copy his tone. He examined my look and an instant smile lit up his already handsome face. "Has Lilly arrived?" He asked curiously. "Yup.." I started but before I could continue I heard the clicking of her heels. Matt and I looked upto see Lil in a bodycon red dress which ended above her knees styled with red pumps. Her lips were coloured hot red perfectly complimenting her dress.
Matt gulped and said breaking the silence which by now, had become awkward," You look beautiful Lilly." She blushed and looked away and I smirked. I coughed and picked up my bag which consisted of my clothes for the next day and Lilly's clothes for night. I borrowed Matt's clothes when I stayed over so didn't bother keeping mine.
We drove to our destination with Lilly and Matt in the front and me at the back as the third wheel.
We were sitting in a small booth in the restaurant we were to meet. I had ordered a strawberry beverage with a tinge of orange while the other two ordered softdrinks. My glance was alternated between my phone and the entrance. I had started chatting with dad while those two were talking or rather Matt was speaking and Lilly was constantly blushing. Dad told me that he and mum were visiting some people who would come to meet us the next day. Ughgh I'll have to finish my work sooner.
After what seemed like ages , I glanced at the door to see Ava entering with a guy. She hurried to our table and pulled me and Lilly into a group hug. She then shook hands with Matt who just smirked. What's wrong with these people? Oh c'mon of course my insanity check machine was wrong when I befriended them. Ha
"Guys this is my friend, Dean Laurens. Dean this is Evelyn , Matt and Lilly." she said pointing to us as we waved. Before I could contain I blurted out, "Are you guys dating ?" Shit! The damage has been done dear. My conscious stated from within after I had spoken.
I could see Ava's face heating up but Dean balanced it. "No! We are just friends."
"Great" I said as I winked at Ava.
The rest of the time passed with both the 'just friends' pairs talking while I scrolled through my instagram.
At night Ava left with Dean while we crashed at Matt's. I changed into one of his tees and shorts and laid down to text Andy. They were both watching some movie in the living room so I decided to leave them alone.
I got a reply as soon as I texted him.
Hey E! How are u?

I am not fine. Had the meet today. Looks like all of them have found ppl. Missed you terribly.

Really? Don't worry we'll go on a date when I come back.😀

No way and FYI, if u make ur bestie pay for food, it's not called a date.😐

Hey hey calm down. Ok we'll go out n I'll pay.

Done😊

Go to sleep now. U must have work tomorrow and late is not ur thing I guess.. no I know it's not.

With this I kept my phone down and slipped into a peaceful slumber.
