Talia's POV
The rain hit hard on the roof of Alexa's house. It was storming like crazy and the power went out a few minute ago. We were all scurring around her house trying to find as many candles as possible and put them in the living room. Some were scented and some were random ones found in various drawers in the kitchen. Luke went around and lit them all and soon we could clearly see everything again.
"Do you think we should put some out?" Samantha asked. "There's a lot of flames." She said.
"I think we'll be fine. They're all spread out enough." Ashton said, sending her a reasurring smile. Calum crawled over to where Alexa sat on the ground and wrapped her in his arms. We all knew she was afraid of the dark and got tense when she couldn't see. Her body relaxed when she felt his precense. I was sitting next to Luke infront of the couch and he was playing with my hand. Michael and Liz were on the couch behind us and Ashton and Sam were on the love seat.
"You know what we should do?" Liz smirked. We all looked at her; slightly nervous at what she was going to say. She usually came up with stupid ideas that we all later regretted doing.
"What?" Calum asked her.
"Let's make an Ouija board and use it." She smiled. I looked at like she was nuts.
"Maybe if it was light outside and not storming like the world was ending. This storm would make that even more scarier than it already is." I said. Everyone agreed with me except Liz and Ashton.
"It could be fun. Have you ever heard of anything happening?" He asked. We all shook our head. Everyone looked at Calum. He usually decided on things. It was always like that and no one objected to his final say.
"What's the worst that could happen?" He smiled. Liz and Ashton exclaimed and we all gathered around in a circle in the living room. Ashton and Liz went off to find supplies to make it. They came back with a large piece of poster, marker, and a cup. Liz took the marker and started writing the letters, numbers, yes, no, and goodbye on the board. She placed the cup in the middle where the paper was blank.
"Liz since it was your idea to do this, you hold the cup. Same with Ashton." Sam said.
"There's enough for two more people on here. Who else?" Ashton smirked. Luke moved closer and put his index finger on the cup. Alexa was hesitent but also put her index finger on the cup.
"What do we ask it first?" Luke asked.
"First we need to see if there is a spirit in the house." Liz said. If that cup moves to 'yes' when they ask, I'm getting out of here as fast as I can.
"Is there any one there?" Ashton called out. The cup stood still. I sighed in relief but sucked in a breath when it started moving to 'yes.' Liz, being the paranormal junkie she is, giggled.
"Who moved that?" Alexa asked. She looked around but the three others shook their head.
"What's your name?" Liz asked. The cup began moving toward the letters and started spelling a name. Slowly, it spelt out 'Alice.'
"How old are you, Alice?" Luke asked. The cup moved to the number 8. I knew Alexa's house was older but nothing strange ever happened here. It was scary to think that the cup was actually moving on its own and no one was controlling it except something that shouldn't be here.
"Guys, I think we went far enough. Please, let's stop." I pleaded.
"One more question!" Liz exclaimed. I sighed and sat back against the couch.
"Were you killed here?" Ashton asked. The cup once again moved to 'yes.'
"That's enough, I'm finished." Alexa said, pulling her hand back and moving towards Calum. Luke agreed and moved back beside me. Ashton and Liz still had their fingers on the cup. Liz was about to ask another question when Michael spoke up.
"Liz c'mon, let's just stop playing." She sighed and took her finger off the cup, along with Ashton. Michael looked scared and he never showed his fear. He was always the tough one and he made sure people knew it. There was a crash that came from the kitchen. We all looked at each other nervously.
"Alexa, your parents are out of town. Why was their a noise?" Calum asked her.
"I-I don't know." She said, nervously. Suddenly, the back patio door blew open which caused the candles to go out. I couldn't see anything. I felt Luke grab my hand beside me and shuffling around me. Everyone moved closer together and was afraid to speak. Ashton finally broke the silence.
"This isn't normal." He said with a shaky voice.
"Is everyone here?" Liz asked. We said yes one at a time. All 8 of us were still in the living room.
"Okay, I think we should try to get to the front door and get out of here. I'd much rather be out in the storm then in here." Luke said beside me. We all agreed and stood up one by one. Alexa offered to go first since she was the most familiar. Calum followed her. He held on to her hand and to Sam's behind him. I was behind Sam, then Luke, Liz, Michael, and Ashton.
"I reached the doorknob." Alexa whispered. I heard her unlock the door and we made our way out of the house. Our group was still together. It was pitch black outside except for the occasional lightening strikes.
"Guys, I forgot my phone. Does anyone have theirs?" Ashton asked. We shook our heads. I remember laying mine on the counter in the kitchen when I got a drink. I wasn't sure where everyone else layed theirs.
"We need to get a phone and I'll get my car keys. If I find someone else's I'll grab theirs. We'll get into my car and get the hell out of here." Ashton said.
"You aren't going back in there." Sam told him.
"Would you rather stand outside stranded in a storm or get to somewhere safer?" Ashton asked. No one answered. He turned around and walked up the steps and inside.
"He'll be fine." Calum reassured everyone. We all waited on the steps for Ashton. It was taking him a long time but finally, he came running out of the house with two sets of car keys and three phones.
"Sorry, I tried my best to find everyone's but I wanted to get out of their a quickly as possible." Ashton said. He handed Luke and Alexa their phones. He had Liz's car keys and mine.
"Did you not get your keys?" I asked him.
"I couldn't find them." He told me. Luke, Ashton, Sam, and I took my car and Liz, Michael, Calum, and Alexa went into the other. We wanted to make sure each car had a phone. We all agreed to go to Ashton's house. I took off first and went the familiar route to his house, leaving three cars and five phones behind.
Author's Note:
This seems like a paranormal story but I promise it isn't. It's on the lines of horror but more of a thriller than anything. Other than that first chapter, there will be nothing paranormal about this book. Thanks for reading!
