Jean Louise--Scout--  is the daughter of a very humble and successful lawyer, Atticus Finch. At the time that this story is taking place she is presently older in age, but tells the story in her younger point of view. Atticus takes on a very racy case when a black man is accused of raping a white woman. You follow the story from Jem (her older brother) and Scout. Throughout the story they grow in understanding that justice can be tainted when personal views are put on display.
Growing up in Maycomb, Alabama a cast system is naturally set in place. Old money, new money, middle class, and plain trash. Each one of these facets are given in example to the story and each play a apart in the outcome.

Personal Opinion:
I first got a taste of To Kill a Mockingbird when I was sitting in a class of Freshman and my favorite literature teacher in the world was reading it to the class. Being that I was a Sophomore at the time I was happy not to answer the discussion question. She gave the characters a true form as the story played out in my mind.
