Lavender pushed a lock of silver blonde hair nervously behind her ear then she picked up her wine glass and took a long drink. She looked over at Harmony who was sitting right besides her; Harmony looked just as uncomfortable as Lavender felt. Then she looked over at Auburn and he was talking animatedly with the girl named Annie... poor poor Annie...I wonder if she knows that Auburn is known for never keeping one girl no longer then a week, he just loves women more then he loves money and that's saying a lot. Still most girls think they can change him, but it's obvious they can't because the reason he never gets serious about someone is because he's always been in love with-
"Lavender can you pass the salt?" Harmony whispered in my ear
I laughed then handed it to her
"You don't have to whisper you know" I said.
Harmony just grinned up at me then shrugged before shaking some salt on her food then taking a bite.
I took a bite of the food in front of me as ,well, not necessarily because I was hungry, but because I was feeling so uncomfortable I wanted something to do with my hands so I looked more natural. I looked at my brothers friend Zachary and couldn't help but notice that he was staring flirtatiously at Harmony and trying to catch her eye as if she was the prettiest thing on the planet (even though she is). Now that was just the icing on the cake, first I have to come home for a weekend, then Madison shows up at my house, and now someone was eyeing MY girlfriend! I stopped for a moment and took a deep breath.
"Calm down lavender" I told myself.
I took a few more deep breaths till I settled down; I was not going to go about this the wrong way. I was going to be mature and I was not going to do anything rash, especially not in front of mother. We continued eating for about half an hour till they came out and took away the dirty plates and brought out our desserts. I looked over at Harmony and her dark blue eyes went wide with excitement as she stared at her plate. I tried not to laugh, she was just too cute.
"So Miss Kingston what do your parents do for a living?" Mother asked breaking the silence.
I almost choked on my food. Oh god, why did she have to ask that?
"Uh, well I don't have any parents" she said awkwardly.
"I see. Whom do you live with when you're not at school then?" she asked.
"Mother maybe this isn't such a..." I started.
"Lavender, I was not asking you I was speaking to Miss. Kingston, plus its bad manners to speak for someone else" she snapped not letting me finish what I was going to say.
"Yes, sorry mother..." I said quietly.
Embarrassment rippled through me, but I didn't let it show on my face.
"So Miss. Kingston you can continue now" she said coolly.
"Well, I live with my aunt, my mother's sister" Harmony said nervously.
"That's kind of her to take care of you. What does she do for a living?" Mother pressed.
"She teaches art at the local college by my house" she answered.
"Art teacher? But wait I thought Lavender said you went to St. Marias with her? How is it that an Art teacher can afford-"
"Mother!" Auburn said loudly interrupting her.
I was so shocked I almost dropped my fork.
"Yes Auburn?" Mom looked at him fiercely.
"I don't think it's very polite to pry" He smiled charmingly at her.
