Blinking I looked up at Hyun-jee, she was pulling me to my feet.

"Good your awake," she whispered.

"H-Hyunjee? How did you get here?"

"Jungkook called me, he only had time to say "hi" before he started screaming, and the connection broke, Bailey tracked your location."

"Oh"

"Let's split," Hyunjee suggested, pulling me to my feet, helping me down the stairs, our voices low.

I nodded, Jee ket go of me, gathering my barings, I took the back exit, giving my partner a reassuring nod.

Shaking myself off, cocking my gun, I rounded a corner, finding myself inches from my captive assistant.

It's all bigger than you could possibly imagine, Seokjin," Taehyung sneered.

"Just drop the glass, Kim," I said coolly, hoping I sounded stronger than I was. I lifted my gun even with his head. The lights flickered, sending shivers down my spine.

"Oh! We're on a surname basis now?" He gave the glass shard a squeeze, dripping blood onto Jungkook. Jungkook winced as the shard danced around his face.

"You lost the privilege of a first name when you double-crossed me! You traitor! Drop it!" I screamed shaking with rage, advancing towards the man holding my assistant captive.

Tears started to pool in the corners of Jungkook's eyes, the sight broke my ready shattered heart.

My feet echoed on the cold decrepit concrete. Making me tenser.

The lights flicked out. Leaving my vulnerable assistant in the dark with a madman.

The hell are they?!

Footsteps and breath echoed all the way around the large broken down warehouse, making it impossible to tell where it was coming from.

"Try me." The bastard cooed into the darkness.

Fuck my life.

The lights flickered back on, Hyunjee held a knife to Taehyung's throat, whispering meaningless threats in his ear.

It happened so fast.

Jungkook kick Tae in the leg, Hyunjee pulled the glass from his hands, and I found myself with my barrel pressed against his forehead.

Tae laughed at me, smirking. Eyes locked on mine.

Just a kid.

"Why?" I asked, my voice barely audible.

Tae spit in my direction, his mouth too dry.

He's not TaeTae anymore, he a killer, a child trafficker, a madman, scum. A traitor, not Tae. Do it. Do it. Do i-

The smirk faded, the ringing sharp in my ears, I wiped the tears from my eyes, glancing at Hyun-jee, she was covering Jungkook's eyes.

Her phone rang.

She answered it.

"Hoseok found where the kids are being kept," she said softly, reaching out to hold my hand, I jerked it away.

I'd almost forgotten what this case was even about.

Jungkook sobbed softly.

I nagged Hyunjee on her ringer bring on, yelled at Kook for crying so loud.

I refused to look back.

All that matters is the job.
