As we rode the underground train my mind drifted off to the events which occurred earlier in the day. The thought of Maven was the first to resurface. His blue eyes pierced my mind. I know I shouldn't feel anything but hatred for Maven, especially since he betrayed us, but I couldn't stop my heart from fluttering at the thought of him. The next memory to force its way into my head was what happened at the Bowl of Bones. I felt anger boil up inside me and as a result the lights on the train flickered. Farley didn't pay much mind to this seeing as the train was old and this probably happened quite often, but Cal perked up a bit. The next thing that came to my mind made it nearly impossible to stop myself from blowing the fuses on the train. Maven's betrayal really destroyed me. I had thought he loved me as I did him, but I was wrong and now all I had to show was a broken and lonely heart.
My anger was rising by the second. Each time the scene replayed through my mind I found it harder and harder to control my lighting. The lights flickered off again, but this time they stayed off for a few seconds. Cal turned to me with a questioning look, though yet again no one else seemed worried. Finally, I couldn't control my powers anymore, so I let the electricity flow through my veins. The lightbulbs shattered all at once, and for a split second you could see purple lightning breaking the glass bulbs. Cal shot up, startling Farley, and looked at me.
"Keep it together Mare!" he shouted.
I looked at him and then over to the rest of the Scarlet Guard. Cal's face was slightly angry; a sliver blush spreading across his face. The Scarlet Guard on the other hand were covered in shock. No one expected the traitor prince to have a sudden outburst like that, especially since he had five guns trained on him. I spared Cal a glance before going back through my thoughts.
"Mare I've been through the same things as you have, and I can control my powers," Cal's voice pulled me out of my memories.
"You've had your ability's your whole life Cal. I've had mine for a few weeks," I retorted.
"But you trained with me and I know you can control your lightning. You have no excuse."
"Your right Tiberias we've gone through the same things, but you didn't love him like I did!" I snap.
Cal simply shook his head at me and smiled to himself, "Are you sure you choose yourself?" Cal said laying back down across his seat.
The train stayed silent for an awkward moment before the members of the Guard carried on with their conversations. No one dared to acknowledge the conversation I shared with Cal. If the pissed either of us off it wouldn't end pretty.

The army of silvers shifted apart making a pathway for Maven. I had no doubt he'd send his soldiers but I didn't expect him in person. He slowly walked towards me, his cape fluttering in the wind. Once he was in a 10 yard radius of me he lit the ground sounding us on fire. The flames rose fifteen feet high creating a barrier between us and Maven's soldiers, between me and the Guard. As soon as the flames reached their full height Maven rushed over to me, pulling me into a hug. I stood there in complete shock. My feet stayed rooted to the ground as Maven embraced me. I could easily send my electricity through his heart, killing him, but for some reason I melted in to his arms.
"Mare let me explain," he begged breaking our hug. I never thought he would beg for anything.
"Why should I listen to you," I snarled.
"Mare please I never met to hurt you," his blue eyes shimmered.
My heart longed for the Maven I lost. Maybe it was because of that I listened, "You have one minute."
He let out a sigh of relief, "I never wanted my father dead. That wasn't even part of the plan. My mother told me that we would find something my brother loved enough that he'd give up the crown and I'd step up to fill my brother's place. Then when my father passed of old age I would be crowned king."
I didn't know wether to believe him or not, but my heart told me to listen, "Then why didn't you stop your mother Maven!"
"I tried, but like she did Cal and my father she whispered her way into my mind. Forced me to watch as she killed my father. He may have loved Cal more than he could ever love me, but he was still my father. Mare I'm scared of what my mother will turn me into without you. Please Mare, I need you. Be my Red Queen."
His offer hung in the air. I hesitated to say yes, but I couldn't say no. How did I know if Maven was telling the truth? He could be luring me to go with him so his mother could kill me, or maybe he would have the honor himself. But then again he could really be telling the truth. Maven could really love me and he could have really been under Elara's control.
"Why should I trust you?" I asked.
He stepped closer to me leaving only an inch of space between our lips. His eyes glanced down at my bottom lip and he smirked. I could see lust filling his blue eyes, and not to mention that my heart was pounding so loud I'm sure Maven could hear it. My head was screaming not to trust him, but my heart was telling me to go for it.
His hand caressed my cheek before putting his lips on mine. The kiss was slow and passionate, he kissed me like I was the only person in the world. It felt like ages before he pulled away leaving us both breathless. He smiled at me and my knees felt weak.
"I'll see you again at Tuck," he said, "2am the morning you arrive on the west part of the island."
I nodded, "Mare one last thing before you go," he stopped me.
I looked at his out stretched hand. In it was a simple silver band with three small rubies. Red in the head, silver in the heart. My eyes widened at what he meant. Slowly I took the ring and slipped it onto my finger. He smiled and sent a ball of flames flying past my head. I wasn't worried though I knew what he was doing. Once he dropped his ring of fire we had to make it look like we're where fighting and not making out. I took one last look at Maven's blue eyes before nodding. He dropped the shield and we began exchanging blows.
Thanks so much for reading. How do you feel about Cameron x Cal. I'll try to update every Wednesday or Thursday after school ends and depending on my schedule. Important this book is Mareven but there will be some Marecal. Don't worry I hate Cal so he won't end up with Mare, but I need some Marecal to add to the plot.
