Besides Maven's warnings concerning his mother the plane ride had been silent. Evangeline was sitting somewhere in the back of the plane, whereas I was sitting up front next to Maven. An awkward silence hung in the air seeing as neither of us wanted to address the situation at hand. A few times I had almost apologized to Maven for breaking his heart, but I quickly stopped myself apon remembering how our last discussion resolved.

After a while the quite became unbearable to the point that arguing with Evangeline seemed more appealing. Without saying anything I stood up and brushed past the curtain separating the cockpit from the passenger area. Sitting with her feet stretched across the aisle, Evangeline was subconsciously messing around with a piece of scrap metal. If she noticed my presence she didn't say anything, or even look up for that matter, instead releasing a sigh.

"Trouble in paradise?' She teased.

The sudden question startled me, but I quickly recomposed myself, "Is it that obvious?" I let out a nervous laugh.

"Yes," she seemed to ponder for a moment before continuing, "Look Barrow we're stuck together. Maven's keeping me round, mentioned that I'd be a good asset in court or something, so why don't you tell me about it. He thinks we could be friends, and he's usually right."

I bit the Inside of my cheek, a nervous habit I picked up. Informing her of my problems would mean telling her everything that had happened. If Evangeline was telling the truth, and that we really would be stuck together, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea. It would be useful to have someone I could talk to inside the palace. Though even if I really wanted to tell her, this wasn't just my secret to tell.

"Maybe," I say, my voice filled with thought, "I'm not the only person this concerns," I glance over to where Maven was sitting.

"Well then talk to him," she motioned, "I'm not going anywhere."

I gave her a curt nod before returning to where I had been previously sitting. No matter how much I didn't want to address this with Maven, or confront him about anything for that matter, I knew it was important. As I took the seat next to him his eyes looked up and met mine for a split second. He continued looking out the window, pretending that he hadn't heard my entire conversation with Evangeline.

"You want me to become friends with Evangeline, right?" I proceeded cautiously.

"Yes," he let out a stressed sigh.

"And you trust her?" I continued.

"I wouldn't have brought her here if I didn't," it was evident that he knew where I was going with this.

"Do you think I can trust her?" I followed.

"You can tell her if you would like Mare," he cut to the point, "I can assure you that it's not good to hold everything in," I could tell he was talking from personal experience, and that broke my heart.

I studied him for a while. His black hair, which was starting to curl from its growing length, reflected the light effortlessly. He took after his mother's pale skin and blue eyes. I had always preferred blue eyes. In many ways Cal reminded of his younger brother. I shuddered at the thought. It couldn't be could it? No, I told myself, but as I explored the idea it became more plausible. Could I have really fallen for Cal because of his similarities to Maven? I hadn't seen him in a while, so I could have been draw to the resemblance. As quickly as theory came, I dismissed it. No matter the truths in it, I couldn't toy with Maven's heart anymore. It's time I let any feelings I have left for him go. It's what's best for the both of us.
