Garrett was taken to the lair, and was in the dojo with Master Splinter. "I must say Mr. Shimmer, I am quite surprised by your appearance," admitted Splinter, "and according to you and your sister and Raphael, you fear the power that is within you." Garrett nodded and said, "Yes indeed Master Splinter. Everything I touch literally freezes. My biggest fear is that if I try to hold my niece or nephew, I might unintentionally freeze them." Splinter stroked his beard and said, "Yes, so I've heard... Lucky for you, I can help you find ways to overcome these obstacles."
Garrett humbly bowed his head and said, "Please teach me, sensei."
"The best suggestion is to focus and meditate," suggested Splinter. "Master Splinter, with all due respect," protested Garrett, "I don't know if I'm able to focus, due to my autism! It's a miracle I can even focus. My mind would be cluttered even attempting to meditate!"
"If you can find a way to overcome your mental disabilities," said Splinter, "then it is not impossible for you to meditate. Just clear your mind..." Garrett took a deep breath, and closed his eyes. He cleared his mind, slowly meditating. "Think of the people you care about..." Splinter softly said, and Garrett did just that. This meditation proceeded for several hours. All the frost Garrett left behind began to dissipate, until Garrett didn't even release any cold air. Splinter smiled and said, "Open your eyes Garrett, you will find you have made much progress." Garrett opened his eyes and saw the dojo wasn't frozen. He was overjoyed! This was just the first step in learning to control his powers.
