When Starlight Was Born

Flashback, one year and a few months ago... Before the other Leonardo came...

Garrett was at the retro video game store, handling the cash register. Things had been rather quiet lately. He had learned from his brother in law Raphael that his sister was admitted to the hospital and that she was due any day with their baby girl. Garrett was excited for the baby. He was going to be an uncle! To be fair, he was sort of a distant uncle since his brother in law's sister in law Twilight Sparkle had Blake. He did care about Twilight's son and daughter. She was practically family. A few minutes later, a woman around Sunset's age walked in. She was wearing the type of clothes a news reporter would wear, had red hair and blue eyes. "Garrett Shimmer?" she asked. He adjusted his glasses and said, "Yes? Wait, didn't we meet at my sister's wedding?" 

 "Yeah, I'm April O'Neil, I'm a friend of Raph's," responded April, "your sister's in labor!" Garrett gasped and said, "Holy Toledo! Hold on a minute April! Let me just ask my boss if I could clock out, then I'll come with you to the hospital." Garrett then ran out of the register, and into his boss's office. A few minutes later, Garrett came out and said, "Alright, I'm off, I'm ready to go April." They then got outside. "Want a lift?" offered April. "Sure, thanks," replied Garrett as they got into April's car. They drove to the hospital where Sunset was giving birth to her baby. "Excited?" asked April as she smiled at him. "Totally! I'm gonna be an actual uncle!" Garrett replied excitedly. "I know what you mean," said April, "even though Sunny and Blake aren't my actual niece and nephew, it's nice to know that Twilight's willing to let me be Auntie April." Garrett smiled. April had always considered him to be like a little brother, which felt nice.

Traffic however, was its usual New York traffic. April even flipped off a few incompetent drivers. Some pedestrians were even slow. But soon, April and Garrett were able to make it to the hospital. After parking and checking in, they rushed over to Sunset's room. "Golly April, you sure are fast for someone that's wearing heels," said Garrett. "Well, when you're a kunoichi, you learn new tricks," joked April. Garrett saw Twilight with Sunny and Blake, looked at Twilight, and said, "Twilight, sorry we're late, traffic was chaotic. How's my sister? Is she okay?" 

 "She's okay Garrett. Exhausted, but okay," said Twilight, "she gave birth to her daughter a few minutes ago. The doctors are checking with the baby right now. Raph's with her." Garrett sighed in relief. An hour later, the doctors said Garrett could see Sunset. He quietly went into her room. Inside the room, Sunset was on the bed in a hospital gown. Raphael was with her. They were happily looking at their baby girl. She was sleeping in a blanket. She had light green skin, and a strand of fiery red hair. "Hey guys," whispered Garrett. He was happy to see them. "Hey Garrett," Sunset said happily, tears in her eyes, "you're just in time to meet your niece. Starlight Rebecca Hamato." Raphael was also in tears, smiling proudly. "May I please hold her?" Garrett whispered. "Sure bro," said Raphael as he gently picked up the sleeping baby. Garrett came a bit closer to his sister. Raph then gave Starlight to Garrett.

He held his niece in his arms, smiling. "She's beautiful guys," whispered Garrett. Starlight slowly opened her eyes. Her right eye was cyan like Sunset's, and her left eye was emerald green, like Raphael's. Starlight didn't cry though. She looked at Garrett with curiosity. "Oh my gosh... Hi..." Garrett said happily, "hi Starlight... I'm your Uncle Garrett..." Starlight smiled, yawning. Garrett chuckled and said, "Someone's got heterochromia. Yes you do..." Starlight laughed even more. Garrett loved his niece. And he would do anything to protect her.

Sunset Sparkle, Blake Hamato, and Starlight Hamato created by Funzoey123456. I thought of the middle name for Starlight. It's a reference to Rebecca Shoichet, Sunset Shimmer's voice actress. And now back to the regular story.
