Now, Garrett hadn't told Fluttershy of his mutation. And neither had anyone else. Garrett had been debating with himself whether he should reveal his powers to Fluttershy. How would she react? Garrett just wasn't sure. In fact, he and Sunset kept the secret of his alter ego a secret from his parents. For obvious reasons of course. One night, Garrett was headed home to his apartment after work. He was tired for once, and he knew the Turtles would be out on patrol to stop any evil. He was on Henson Street, when suddenly, he heard a cry of distress. He ran to where the danger was, and saw that Fluttershy was in the ally, a mugger holding her bunny Angel at knifepoint. "Give me your money, or the rabbit gets it!" threatened the mugger. "Please, don't hurt him!" begged Fluttershy, scared and in tears. "Oh no, not on my watch!" thought Garrett as he ran from behind, and transformed into Mr. Nitrogen. The hero then went back to the ally, and the burglar kept on threatening to kill Angel in front of Fluttershy.
Mr. Nitrogen put his arms on his hips and said, "Put the bunny down, Elmer Fudd." The burglar turned around, and gasped in surprise. "Hey Vanilla Ice, back off, or I'm gonna make this rodent a tiny fur coat!" threatened the burglar. "How about you leave the lady alone?" suggested Mr. Nitrogen. "Why don't you go back to Arendelle and Let It Go, Elsa?" mocked the mugger. Mr. Nitrogen rolled his eyes. He'd heard way too many ice puns, and now he understood Sunset's annoyance. "Really? Frozen puns?" he asked in annoyance, then he sighed, "But you know what? I think I will Let It Go. And by Let It Go, I mean the bunny." He then walked up to the burglar, and took Angel away from the mugger. Mr. Nitrogen then gave the bunny to Fluttershy. She gasped and said, "Look out!" Mr. Nitrogen then punched the mugger from behind. "Get back," he said, and Fluttershy backed away, seeing if Angel was okay. Mr. Nitrogen then faced the crook. The crook tried to stab him, but Mr. Nitrogen melted into a puddle, and the crook turned to a wall, accidentally stabbing a wall, the blade breaking. "Ah man, that was my favorite knife!" complained the mugger, "where is he?"
"Over here," taunted Mr. Nitrogen, who was behind the mugger. The mugger charged towards him, but slipped on a frozen puddle, falling flat on his back. "You done? Because I can do this all night," teased Mr. Nitrogen. The mugger got up, and tried to punch Mr. Nitrogen, but the hero kept on dodging his attacks. Mr. Nitrogen then turned into a misty gas, going all over the mugger. "You don't want to sell me death sticks," taunted Mr. Nitrogen, "you want to go home and rethink your life!" The mugger than ran away. Mr. Nitrogen turned back to his solid form and said, "And don't go around hurting young ladies and their bunnies ever again!" He faced his crush, and in his best heroic voice said, "Are you and your bunny alright, ma'am?"
"Yes thank you so much..." Fluttershy said, then she realized..."Garrett?" She looked at him and recognized his face! "I beg your pardon miss?" Mr. Nitrogen asked, trying not to blow his identity away. "Oh my gosh, Garrett!" Fluttershy said in her freaking out voice, covering her mouth. Angel shook his head. "How did you know it was me?" Garrett asked, knowing he was busted! "I've seen you without your glasses on Garrett!" said Fluttershy, "What, did you think I wouldn't recognize you because your face and hair was white and you looked like some 90's comic book character?!?!?!" Garrett blushed in embarrassment. "Wait, did Rarity make that costume?" asked Fluttershy as she observed Mr. Nitrogen's costume. "Actually yes, she did," replied Garrett, "Donnie even suggested the symbol."
Much later, Garrett, Angel, and Fluttershy were at her apartment. Garrett was back in his normal attire. For the next hour, he poured his entire heart out to Fluttershy. He explained how his attackers had exposed him to a mutagen tampered nitrogen gas, and how this caused him to mutate into his current form, and how Splinter and the Turtles helped Garrett control his powers. Fluttershy nodded, listening to all of this and said, "So Splinter and the Turtles know that you're Mr. Nitrogen?" she asked. Garrett nodded. "Does anyone else know?" Fluttershy asked. "Sunset knows," explained Garrett, "as does Twilight, and April, and Casey, along with Sunny, and Blake, and Starlight. Haven't told Mom and Pop for obvious reasons." Fluttershy nodded, understanding. There was silence. Garrett looked into Fluttershy's sea green eyes. "Believe me Fluttershy, I wanted to tell you," said Garrett, "but I just couldn't find the right time..."
Fluttershy looked into Garrett's cyan eyes. "I can forgive you for not telling me Garrett," said Fluttershy, "and I think you're really brave, being Mr. Nitrogen..." Garrett held her hand. Fluttershy blushed when he held her hand. "There's something else I wanted to tell you Fluttershy," said Garrett. "Yes Garrett?" she asked. "Ever since we went to high school..." admitted Garrett, "I've always had a crush on you..." Fluttershy gasped, blushing more. "You have...?" Fluttershy asked. Garrett silently nodded. "I must admit... I couldn't stop thinking about you after Twilight and Leo's wedding," said Fluttershy, "that dance was so magical... I love you Garrett Shimmer..." Garrett closed his eyes, raising his lips, getting closer to Fluttershy. She also closed her eyes, and went closer to him. They then kissed each other on the lips. Garrett held on to the kiss, and it felt beyond magical. He wanted to live in this moment forever.
