Nettle opened her eyes for the first time, and was greeting with a lick to the ear. Her litter mates, Fang, Tessa, and Darkie, wriggled beside her. Dang was looking at her, his red pelt dirty. That was a common thing in Vein Alley.
You had to clean yourself, or you didn't get cleaned.
Nettle looked down at her own ash-gray pelt. It wasn't the worst. It was clean— or what went for clean in her little clan.
Her mother, Alice, was licking all of her kits, her voice uncomfortably loud.
"Oh, my beautiful kits!"
Nettle squeaked, outraged. Her small sound was cut off as Fang pushed her out of the way while he was trying to get to the milk. She simply stood up and waddled over.
Alice blinked at Nettle in surprise. She was walking, already. This would be a strong kit!
Fang squealed in anger, his fur fluffing up angrily. Nettle stuck her tongue out at him.
This was her life.. everything would be okay.Nettle woke up. Today was her day! She was going to be made an apprentice!
Her brother, Fang, was beside her. His pelt was groomed and nice.
Nettle began grooming her own fur, suddenly self-conscious.
Darkie tackled her, wasting the kits efforts to look nice.
Tessa looked disgusted at her siblings.
"Darkie! I was trying to look clean!" Nettle protested loudly. Darkie giggled.
"Who needs to look nice? You'll just get dirty again anyways!"
Fang rolled his eyes at the two, and Nettle scampered over and sat by him, pressing her nose into his fur and purring. She was so excited! She was going to be an APPRENTICE!
Their leader, Skythe, stood upon his dumpster. He looked intently impressive.
"Cats of Vein Alley! Gather beneath my dumpster for a meeting!"
The three kits moved forward nervously, scared. Alice watched proudly.
"We've got something to do!" Skythe went on, his voice booming across the alley. Darkie quivered with excitement, his black fur fluffy.
Nettle had her emerald green eyes fixed on her leader. Any moment now!
"We need a medicine cat apprentice. We've got two suitable candidates! Moon and Robin. Both are to be trained," The leader said, turning his eyes upon a grey tom with grey speckles (almost like moonlight was shining in him) and blue eyes. He looked nervous but excited. Robin had grey fur with a ginger/brown stomach, with amber eyes. She looked calm and controlled.
Nettle smiled at her siblings. They were next!
"That is all," Skythe said. The tom then retreated into his dumpster.
