Nettle opened her eyes. She was still tired.
It's a fact that if you get more than eight hours of sleep, you'll fall back in a deep sleep and you'll be more tired when you wake up.
Guess that happened..
Sunlight streamed in though the dirty wire mesh of the nursery. It hit her in the face and she recoiled, hissing. She expected to hit her mother or her siblings, but the nest was empty.
First of all, they never woke up before her.
Secondly, where had they gone?! Had they gone out without her?! That explained why Alice was gone..
The grey she-cat exited the nursery (which she still had to stay in, thanks to Skythe), feeling the alley's rough cobblestone under her paws.
What met her sight was a gruesome one.
Fang was on the ground, blood surrounding him. One of his legs seemed to have been bitten clean off. Moon was desperately jumping around the apprentice aged cat, applying herbs for the wound and pressing cobwebs to it.
Nettle almost screamed. What had happened to Darkie?! And Tessa?!
Darkie was standing, but blood was dripping onto the alley floor from long scratches and large bite marks. Tessa was unharmed, though looked shaken.
Nettle shuddered as she glanced back at Fang. Her brother was limp and looked on the edge of joining the cats of Star Trail.
Moon gently picked up Fang and moved him to his dumpster, gesturing for Darkie to follow.
Once they were gone, Nettle turned to Tessa, speaking softly, "What happened to mother?"
"She isn't there?!" Tessa fired up at once, her fur sticking up. "She wasn't with us! It was your job!"
"But.. I wasn't even awake.." Nettle responder gently. In reality, she was so sad. But it was okay, it would always be okay. Her mother would be fine. One day she'd find be love of her life, she she'd be so so happy!
No. Everything was going to be okay.
