Chapter Five ; Day One

The first show of the tour was today. Lucas had advised us to get inside for soundcheck two hours before the concert began, which is going to be a normal thing for every show.

Today's venue wasn't as small as I thought it would be. It was at a small venue, but it wasn't at, let's say, a club. There was enough space for a pit to reach the entire floor, no seats to be seen. Then, there was a small balcony, again, with no seats.

Awsten sang a song off the radio into the mic, warming up his vocals. Geoff played solos on his guitar, jumping around like it was a real concert right now. And unlike the other two, Otto sat by his drums, not playing. He admired the other two, enjoying how much fun they were having.

I walked out from the side of the stage to get a better look at the venue. It must be so scary to play at places like this. With thousands of people focused on the music, and sometimes how you look, it'll give me nightmares.

"Doors open at seven," Awsten spoke into the mic, voice booming against Geoff's guitar. With a final strum, Geoff put his guitar down.

Right now it was 6:30. At home, it would be about 12:30. Don't think about home. It's just gonna make you homesick.

The next thirty minutes just flew by. They stopped playing, just taking the time to converse with each other.

As the people started pouring in, I was hiding behind the stage, along with the band. Screams could be heard from in front of the stage right to the back of the room. These kids really loved Waterparks.

When 7:30 hit, the opening band came on. People loved them, and I just heard of them now. After them, it took a while for Waterparks to get on. The lights dimmed and took everyone by surprise. By now everyone one was screaming. Bloodcurdling screams from all around. I was able to peek my head through the side, watching people in the pit freaking out.

One by one, they walked onstage. Otto going behind his drums. Geoff taking the position in front of a mic, his guitar hanging around his neck. The last to appear was Awsten. Before he went onstage he joked with me, "A kiss for good luck?" I laughed and pushed him out, hearing the room lose it when he showed.

Grabbing the mic stand, he giggled, "Hello Birmingham!" Once again, everyone was screaming. Please tell me this won't happen every time he speaks.

They began playing, the whole place filled with joy. The songs these people have been dying to hear are now blasting their eardrums. Nothing could top this moment.

As Awsten was going to introduce another song, he looked at me, then back to the crowd. "This next one, I'd like to dedicate to someone." My heart dropped, along with my stomach. Oh god, he looked at me before he started. This is for me. "To the lovely girl I met a few months ago, this one's Not Warriors."

No one could keep their mouth shut. Does Awsten have a girlfriend? Who is she?

I was too busy watching him pouring his lungs out into this. His arm moved up and down, strumming so violently a string may pop off. Every few seconds I'd catch him sneaking looks to the side of the stage, gazing at me.

One of their last songs was Stupid For You. The lyrics reflected onto me how Awsten has been acting recently. "Tell me what you want me to say. You know I'm stupid for you." Now that I'm thinking of it, he has been changing his personality whenever he was around me.

This didn't matter, I shouldn't be digging this deep into a topic that doesn't matter.

The night was over. The final note and the dopamine rush in everyone was at an all time low. Lights came on in the entire room, showing the sad faces of most. Concerts are always a light switch. One time it's on. You're jumping around, singing your heart out to songs you've only ever listened to at two in the morning, staring at the ceiling. And the other time, it's off. You watch the empty stage that used to have your favourite people standing on it. To hear nothing but the talk of other people and sometimes ringing from the loud music, it's just tragic.
