"We don't believe in fairy tales."

April 18, 2007

One Chance's Look at Her remix filled the speakers of Crowning Glory as a few of the girls began snapping their fingers to the beat. Cash smirked remembering that this was her ring tone on AD's phone.

"Cash, your two o'clock just cancelled," Shay yelled from the desk. Cash looked towards her and nodded as she began to set her current client's hair in straws.

"Girl can you spray something on these braids." The girl said squinting. Cash laughed a little as she grabbed the braid spray and applied it to the front of her hair.

"My fault," she said as the girl's facial muscles relaxed once the spray hit her braids. Cash had a habit of braiding tight. At least she knew they wouldn't come down anytime soon.

"I should have known your heavy-handed ass was going to do that," she said causing Cash to laugh. Mia was one of Cash's regular customers so they joked around a lot.

"Yeah, you should have," Cash said starting another row of straws. Cash glanced at Breezey who was twirling around in her empty chair. "B, what are you doing?"

She asked causing Breezey to look up at her and stop spinning.

"I'm bored." Was her answer, causing Cash to laugh.

"Since you're bored you don't mind going to get the food from the China house?" Shay said as more of a statement than a question. She smiled as Breezey got up and smacked her lips.

"You're lucky I'm bored," she said walking out of the shop. Cash smirked as Shay looked at her.

"So I might be leaving a little early today. I have to clean the apartment because Chris' cousin is coming on Sunday," Shay said causing Cash to frown.

"It's Thursday," Cash said wondering why she would start cleaning up so early.

"Girl we all have mad heads for the next two days, I am not going to want to clean up."

A few people laughed as the bell rang and the door of the salon opened. A young woman about Cash's age walked in as her heels clicked almost louder than the music. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail and her full glossed lips moved as she smacked on a piece of gum. She smirked as she saw Cash.

"You need to sign in," Shay said as she walked from behind the desk. The girl turned back to sign her name as Shay walked past Cash.

"Be nice." She mouthed but Cash didn't respond. She didn't see why out of all the salons in town that she had to come to this one, even if it was one of the best.

"Hello Cashelle," she said walking past Cash's station towards another girl's that worked there. The way she said Cash's name made her sick, but she refused to let it show.

"Eve," Cash said acknowledging that she heard her. Cash began to finish Mia's straws and put her under the dryer. Cash then retreated to the large lounge room in the back that was employees only. Shay had designed it to be a chill room and it did just that. There was a large flat screen on the wall and a rounded black leather couch. There was another small room off to the side with a bed just in case someone got sick of just wanted to sleep on their break. Cash slide down on couch and sighed. Eve always seemed to get her blood boiling over little things.

Eve was one of Yani's dad's nieces. Cash's dad was killed before she turned one so the only father she knew was Jonathan. Jonathan always treated Cash like a step child but their mom was always too blind to see it. When Jonathan and their mom dipped, Cash ran to Jonathan's grandmother's house the next day and told them what happened. His grandmother was taking care of most of her kids' kids so she had no room for Cash and Yani. When she threatened to call child services, Cash took Yani and left. That was around the same time they met up with Breezey.
