Without You

Chapter 13

"Hey Mom are you doing ok?" I asked her when I went down for breakfast,
When she said she was she didn't look at me but just stood there like I knew something about her,
"Ok, just want to make sure" I said as I started to stand to go to school,
"Why do always have to make sure!!"
She yelled
"Mom!"
"Your always asking questions and making no sense!!"
I came over to hug her
"Mom calm down"
I held her in my arms and silently I said
"What did they do to you..." Then I closed my eyes and thought, when I let go I looked at her in the eyes
"Is because of dad?"
"No honey I'm fine it's nothing"
"Ok mom it's not nothing!"
"You need to go to school!"
"No mom this is serious!! You can hurt yourself if you don't tell me what's going on!!"
Sh looked at me and sighed
"Go to school we'll talk when you get back"
She went back to what she was doing;
Concerned and worried I walked out the front door looking back hoping that she would be fine without me.
  When I walked down the front steps I met Mindy walking in the same direction,
"You look exhausted" she told me, I slowly turned my head towards her
"Do I?"  I said Pretending to be shocked, she looked kind of confused like she thought I was lying.

We walked into school and went to class, on the way out I ran into Adam
"Oh I'm sorry" I said trying to get around him, he grabbed my arm and looked at me
"Listen..." He looked around then toke me to a calmer side of the hall
"I'll tell you what happened to Dust, if you..." He looked around again
"If you... if you Could just...date me" I loosened my arm from his grip and with a mad look on my face I walked away, looking down I ran into Miles (who of course is always concerned)
"Emily" he said coming up to me putting his hand around my back
"Are you ok?" He was trying to look at my face but I wouldn't let him and I didn't respond
"Emily!" He yells when I start to walk faster
"Stop!" I yelled
"I don't always need your protection!!....I need to get to class,ok"
I put my hoodie on over my head and looked down at my feet my as I kept walking as fast as I could to get to the next class.
  
"So what do you think Einstein's intention was?" The teacher she at the front of the classroom
"Emily? do you have any thoughts?"
I nodded my head no still looking down
"Ok well let's continue"the teacher said.
When class was over I walked straight home, I opened the front door, closed it, then sat down in front of it, I toke a deep breath and closed my eyes but I heard something in the kitchen so I got up and walked in enough to hear,
"Ok well, she's not home yet....ok,ok, thanks, Happy Anniversary to you too"
"What?" I asked myself
"What Anniversary?" So I opened the front door again to make it sound like I had just gotten home, and walked into the kitchen
"Hey Mom" I said, but without trying I said
"Who's anniversary is it?"
Then I covered my mouth in shock that I had even said that.
