wednesday was weird for mark.
first, he bumped into donghyuck on the way into school, who was walking alone. then he watched as donghyuck hesitated with his food in the middle of the cafeteria at lunchtime, with jaemin, jeno and renjun staring at their friend. and then donghyuck spotted sanha and made a beeline for the drama geeks' table.
and mark was sitting at that table.
"can i sit here?" donghyuck asked, clearing his throat.
sanha, seungyeon, kyla, mark and chani just sort of... stared at donghyuck for a second.
"sure!" sanha exclaimed, patting the seat beside him.
"what brings you here?" chani asked curiously.
"can i not sit here?" donghyuck grumbled, glancing up and making eye-contact with mark for a moment. but then he got back to his pizza.
"no one's stopping you, man," sanha said.
"your friends are staring at you, though," kyla pointed out quietly.
donghyuck stole a glance at renjun, jeno and jaemin, but only shrugged.
"they'll get over it," he said.
"will you?" seungyeon questioned.
he frowned at her.
"i'm just kidding," she laughed. "don't take it too serious."
donghyuck chuckled. "still don't want to kiss me, huh?"
"i have a boyfriend-"
"but everyone wants to kiss me," donghyuck reasoned. mark caught the glance that the peachy-haired boy subtly threw his way, but kept his head down and eyes anywhere but donghyuck.
sanha scoffed. "big-headed or what?"
"what can i say?" donghyuck said with a grin, holding both hands up, "i am my own hypeman."
"then what am i?" xiyeon demanded as she walked over with her lunch tray, slamming it on the table beside donghyuck, and startling mark.
"the actress for krystal?" he suggested, smirking.
"ha-ha," she drawled, sliding in next to him. "seriously, have you replaced me?" she asked with a pout.
"and they say they're not dating," chani remarked.
"i haven't replaced you, you idiot," donghyuck told her, pushing her head away. "i can just hype up myself, someone's gotta do it."
"i'm still your number one hypeman, hyuckie," she informed him seriously.
"alright," he agreed with a laugh.
"oh, and hyuck and i aren't dating," xiyeon added, leaning over the table to see the other boys, "i've got my eye on someone."
this was when mark noticed kyla start figeting with her sleeve and her eyes darting around. avoiding eye contact? he thought.
"anyway, kyla," xiyeon said with a grin, startling the shy girl. "how's married to the music going for you? it was looking great in rehearsals."
"t-thanks," the brown-haired girl mumbled. "it's good."
"it's so fun," seungyeon agreed. "i can't wait to try it in costume."
"lights looking good too, mark," xiyeon added with a grin.
now mark often sat with minhyuk and chan, and usually yeri, but since the musical started some of the more outgoing theatre geeks actually started talking to him. and so he'd become a regular at their lunch table, occasionally asked about lighting and sound for the show by the other actors. he couldn't say that he was close with xiyeon, but she was friendly towards him.
