"doyoung-hyung?" donghyuck whined, rubbing his eyes as he wandered towards the bathroom.
"yeah?" doyoung replied slowly. "ugh, why is this so difficult?"
"what are you doing?" the peachy-haired boy asked, scratching his head. he reached the bathroom and poked his head around the door.
doyoung was awkwardly standing over the sink with a lock of his dark fringe in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other.
"hyung, just go to the hairdressers," donghyuck groaned, remembering the tragedy of when doyoung had attempted to cut his hair. there were still pictures to prove it, and donghyuck wanted to erase the too-short fire-hydrant red fringe from his memory.
"it's too much of a bother," doyoung brushed him off, successfully cutting part of his fringe to the right length. "do you need to pee or something?"
"i can wait," donghyuck said, watching doyoung struggle with a smirk on his face.
"donghyuck, can you not watch me?" doyoung asked in a pained voice. he cut another section of his fringe to the right length and sighed. "you okay?"
"fine, why?" donghyuck grunted.
"still not talking to jaemin?" he quipped, sending his younger brother a sidelong glance.
"no, why?" he muttered. "i never told you that, hyung."
"jaehyun did," doyoung replied, grabbing another section of his bangs. "he said jaemin went off on him when he so much as mentioned your name."
"he did?" donghyuck questioned, before looking disinterested again. "what did jaehyun say?"
"god, i don't know," doyoung whined, snipping away at his fringe. "jaehyun just said jaemin won't talk about it, he's tried asking why you're not speaking to him."
"he's not speaking to me," donghyuck said defensively.
"he said you quit the team," the taller said, sounding disappointed. "how come you didn't tell me?"
"you never told me about doing costume for the show," donghyuck said with a pout.
"that's not the same," he huffed. "why did you quit?"
"because i wanted to do the musical and i couldn't do both," the peachy-haired boy snapped. "and it's not my fault jaemin's being a fucking bitch to me all the time-"
"he what?" doyoung demanded.
"nothing," donghyuck said quickly. "god, hurry up with that, it'll look shit no matter how long you take," he groaned.
"alright, no need to bully me," doyoung tutted, pulling a lock of hair and angling the scissors to cut it.
"oh, hyung-"
"fuck!" doyoung yelled as he let go of the piece of hair he had just cut.
donghyuck took one look at him and started laughing.
"shut up," he grumbled, looking dispairingly at his ruined fringe. he had a bit right in the middle that was way too short, sitting about two centimetres above his eyebrow. "i can't believe this," he wailed.
donghyuck had sunk to the floor, clutching his stomach as he practically rolled around in hysterics. he took another look at doyoung's hair and started crying with laughter.
"hyung, i swear," donghyuck began, his voice cracking on every word, "that's just- ah, i can't look at it!"
"you distracted me!" doyoung whined, cutting the remaining long strands in a sloppy fashion, since nothing could worsen the haircut now. he threw down the scissors and stalked out of the bathroom, nearly tripping over his brother in the process. "i hope you die," he added.
"love you, too, hyung," donghyuck called, wiping tears from his eyes.
the peachy-haired boy was in a far better mood than usual when he walked into school on monday morning.
he almost walked up to renjun and jeno as he saw them enter the school gates. but then jaemin jumped on them, throwing his arms around them. like donghyuck always did.
the boy scowled and quickly walking into school.
donghyuck grabbed his tray at lunch and looked around for sanha's table.
"is he still not talking to us?" jeno asked in a small voice as he saw donghyuck walk towards their table.
"he's being a dick," jaemin sniffed, twisting around to see donghyuck approach on his way to his new lunchtable.
the brown-haired boy frowned and stuck his foot out, sending donghyuck sprawling.
"oh, shit," mark muttered, leaving his food at the counter and walking towards the scene.
"what the fuck?" donghyuck growled, looking up at his once-best friend.
"acknowledging our existence now?" jaemin sneered, watching with his arms crossed as donghyuck got up, his hoodie covered in egg and spinach and rice from his bibimbap.
"some friend you are," donghyuck spat, "oh, yeah - that word doesn't apply to you anymore." he picked spinach off the front of his white hoodie and threw it at jaemin, who merely swiped it away.
"at least i don't change my friends like i change my socks," jaemin scoffed. "you think you're one of them?"
mark walked closer, feeling the need to step in. he didn't want donghyuck and jaemin to go for each other's throats in the middle of the cafeteria.
"at least they accept me," donghyuck said defensively.
"guess you never belonged on the team," jaemin stated, standing up, "go and thump about on stage for all i care, at least soccer was something you were good at-"
"shut the fuck up!" donghyuck yelled, lunging at him.
jaemin went to claw at him but there was the scrape of a chair as the much bigger jeno got up and wrapped his arms around jaemin, holding him back.
and it was mark that grabbed hold of donghyuck and dragged him back a few steps before the peachy-haired boy wrestled out of his grip. he spun round, his face softening a little when he looked at mark, but flinched away when mark tried to lay a hand on his arm.
"don't touch me," he snapped, sounding injured. he turned to look at jaemin, who had managed to calm down a little, but jeno still had his arms around him. renjun looked bewildered at the scene in front of him. "don't fucking talk to me or i'll fucking end you," he said through gritted teeth.
"donghyuck-" mark began.
"go away, mark," donghyuck said, his voice cracking, before fleeing the cafeteria.
mark sighed before helplessly running after him.
