noren special chapter;

renjun and jeno read their letter

"good morning," jeno chuckled over the phone on christmas morning, rolling over in his bed, his duvet bunched around him. one foot stuck out the bottom, covered in a red and white striped sock that always reminded renjun of a candy cane. jeno was certainly as sweet as one.

"morning, no-no," renjun mumbled, hugging his blanket to his chest. he reached for his moomin plushie that had fallen off his bed in the night and cuddled that instead, wishing it was jeno.

"merry christmas, ren-ren," he replied.

"merry christmas," the chinese boy said, "are you still in bed?"

"it's seven am, baby," jeno grunted, rubbing his eyes.

"sorry," renjun said sheepishly, "i always wake up early on christmas."

"it's fine," jeno laughed, "me, too. i'm always too excited to open presents."

"i can't wait until you open mine," renjun told him, smiling as he heard jeno laugh again on the other end of the line.

"same, i really hope you like what i got you," jeno said.

"of course i will," renjun assured him. "i'll let you sleep, no-no."

"you sleep some more too, ren-ren," he responded. he paused. "you've... still got jaemin's letter, right?"

"no, i lost it since yesterday," renjun said, rolling his eyes. "i've still got it, no-no, don't worry."

"sorry-"

"don't apologise," renjun told him, "it's alright, you big baby. we're both worried about him."

renjun could sense jeno smiling at the light scolding, and couldn't wait to see him later. for the first time, renjun had invited jeno over to his house, where he would spend time with renjun's adopted family in their natural habitat. it was a big step for renjun, and jeno was so happy that he had overcome it. and christmas was a time for extra cuddles, so jeno was even more excited to see him.

"see you after lunch, then," jeno said, "love you, ren-ren."

"love you, too, no-no," renjun replied, his smile widening. he knew jeno wouldn't want to hang up so renjun forced himself to end the call; jeno needed his sleep. they'd spent ages procrastinating from hanging up the phone over the past few weeks, with either one of them having to say, 'look, it's one am and we've got school tomorrow' - it was clear the two couldn't get enough of each other.

renjun chuckled and set his phone on his bedside table. he was absolutely smitten. but he knew jeno was too, so that made him feel a little less pathetic.

"you two are so disgustingly in love, i might actually be sick," donghyuck had grumbled, though he had fought to keep the smile off his face at how cute his two best friends were. renjun was happy that the three of them, along with mark, were like a mini squad again. the only person left to get back was jaemin.

jaemin.

renjun's gaze wandered to the letter on his bedside table, just inches from his phone. in the dim light of the room, the words couldn't be made out, but the chinese boy reached out an wrapped his fingers around the piece of paper, bringing it closer to his chest.
